I have been putting off sleep training for the last 18 months... My son can't figure out how to sleep all night on his own, though, and I have finally decided to help him along. Has anyone else sleep trained a toddler this late? All the advice I can find is for 6 month olds... Any tips would be amazing! Thanks...
Re: Any tips? I'm just now sleep training
I think a lot depends on your LO's personality. Research different methods (Ferber, No Cry Sleep Solution, Walk In Walk Out) and pick the one you are comfortable with. I went through this with my 13 month old. First I changed his sleep routine so he wasn't depending on the bottle to sleep and it worked initially but after a couple of weeks, he was still waking up at night and it was getting hard to put him back to sleep. I finally just let him cry it out and after three days, he just started sleeping through the night and has been pretty consistent.
The key is to be consistent. I knew my husband would just give in and take him to bed with him so I was the one who stayed up and let him cry in the middle of the night. I work so it was pretty bad but I started right before the weekend so at least I could sleep during the day initially and luckily LO caught on pretty fast.
