2nd BBT shift?

Hey everyone. I'm 6dpo...at least according to my bbt chart. Other signs (cm and opk) indicate I can be as much as 8dpo. I'm going off the bbt though to be on the safe side. Anyway, I've had pretty normal temp fluctuations since getting my first shift, but this morning I saw another huge shift. (.4 above yesterday and .2 higher than the last 6). But I figured 6dpo would be too early to see that in a triphasic chart. So I actually have 3 questions...the 1st is whether a first temp shift can be delayed and not occur 12-24 hours after O, 2. whether a second bbt shift also needs to be sustained for 3 days to confirm like the first, and 3. Whether a second shift can happen as early as 6dpo?

This is just for personal knowledge to help me understand the nuances of charting. If I have no AF in a week or so, I'm definitely going to poas. ;)

Thanks in advance. Have a great day!

  • Meant to include that. Sorry!

Give me a sec while I figure out how to get the link on mobile...

  • Loading the player...
  • To see a 2nd shift, would one of my post-o temps have been below the coverline? Is that how that works?

No. You would have a second clear shift.

Sorry...what is your "No" reply to? I hadn't asked anyone to tell me if it was triphasic. I was asking some specific questions about when that could occur, if temps can be delayed, ect. Also, I am aware triphasic charts don't mean anything...I was just looking for some help about some of the nuances of charting.

On an unrelated note...your sn made me sing the song...I like.

  • I though that might be the case. Thanks for clarifying and for your advice.

One random slightly increased temp does not equal a temp shift.
That's why I asked if a 2nd shift would need to be sustained for a period of 3 days...

    Thanks for answering that one...

    Um... Check yourself.
I apologize that came off wrong. I was simply explaining that I didn't think one temp meant anything and was clarifying the need to see a sustained shift. It's tough to read into tone on a forum, but I genuinely didn't mean anything to be condescending. This was the first answer to one of the specific questions I had asked, so I was actually thankful to have received that input.

  • Temping is meant to confirm ovulation, other than that there's really no use in trying to read anything into post-O temps, including trying to see if you've gone triphasic or looking for signs of pregnancy.  So many people try to see pg symptoms in their temps, but that's as useless as trying to read into body symptoms like cramping, bloating, etc.  The prettiest charts, triphasic or not, can be BFNs, just as the ugliest charts can end up in BFPs.  As a new charter, you need to relax and wait to see how the whole cycle pans out, individual temps mean absolutely nothing.  Once you get a few charts under your belt you may start to see patterns in your temps pre- and post-O, or you may not, sometimes cycle to cycle things can be very different.  In the end, you have to just wait things out and see how it all goes down, worrying about every little temp or fluctuation will just drive a person crazy.
