When your baby can hear

SO its about time that my little bun in the oven is going to be able to hear.  What are everyones plans as far as special things that you plan to do?  Read books to the baby?  Play classical music?  Have you heard any tips about good things to do to help the baby be more intelligent, calm, etc?

@babygabe614 we're not Eagles fans but both of our teams were knocked out of it and my baby started to hear the week the Steelers played and got knocked out. And since NASCAR season Starts soon and baseball season starts and hockey playoffs happen before we're due this baby is in for some colorful language haha. Now I feel guilty so I'm going to put some Mozart and Bach on for my belly lol

  • So far baby has heard me yell at DD to not put her blanket in the toilet. Am I doing anything special. No. I have a 4 year old. Baby will hear stories when I read them to my DD. Things change when your going to have #2.

  • Sometimes I will say a sweet little hello when I have a moment alone. I'm not all that sentimental and am pretty busy, so that's probably the best this baby's gonna get til they're here. I say if you want to go all out, more power to ya.

  • My baby listens to Howard Stern.

MississippiCatfish said I'm super busy.  We will catch up on story time plenty in the future.

My baby is going to be able to swear like a drunken sailor by the time it's born. Also it will know all of my professors' voices.

OMG...I need to work on my sailor like language.

  • Dh will start to read baby a book every night (the same one) he did this with DS and still reads it to him nightly. I think it's cute :) other than that baby will just hear the songs and books DS and I read/sing. When I was pregnant with DS I was teaching preschool so I never did extra reading or singing for him because he heard lots everyday
  • I'm constantly playing music and singing off-key... poor kid.
  • Well, I read a lot to my toddler so I suppose baby will hear a lot of books that way.  And like @Swilkins1122 I do plenty of off-key singing so there's that.  I'm not planning to do anything special I guess.

  • I have Spotify going almost all day so I sing along with it. If music isn't playing it hears The Food Network. Plus, DH asks it "how is my baby doing today" every morning when we wake up.
  • I talk to the baby sometimes, especially if she is moving around a lot. DH is so sweet though. Every night before bed he will talk to my belly. Its so cute!

Baby will probably come out humming the Law & Order SVU theme, and screaming "cover your f**king man" or "catch the f**king ball"....die-hard Bronco fan here, and they never make those wins look easy. Good thing low blood pressure runs in the family. But, DH does kiss my stomach and say "love you two" every night before bed and we may read a few books at some point.

I have been an SVU addict. Yesterday morning I watched an episode about Stablers wife having a car accident and going into labor. I balled my eyes out!! This kid will think Olivia and Elliot are his parents!!!!

  • @kellyjayne - solid choice with SVU. Baby will be awesome.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • I am a music teacher so the baby will hear lots of talking and singing from me and from the environment around me. Our school is performing The Wizard of Oz this spring so he/she will also get to hear me playing the piano score for that endlessly. Just lots of music I guess!

  • According to TB app, my baby can hear as of this week. Thank god the Eagles are out of the playoffs or baby would be getting a lot of DH yelling as well, @kbellizio3

So far he/she has only heard my off-key singing in the car. Lucky kid.

Haha junior missed all of the Eagles commotion here too. It'll get an earful at the Phillies games though!
  • I blast Symphony X on my commute, does that count?  At least the baby will have good taste in music....
  • At 39 weeks pregnant, I scored 2nd row Kathy Griffin tickets. Lots of movement and responsiveness to the cursing every other word! So far, DS hasn't said told me to "F off" or anything similar.

My dude has been singing the Eagles fight song to my belly for weeks. As I am a Giants fan, I consider this child abuse.

OMG I agree wholeheartedly. Child abuse indeed.

    Baby #1: expected June 2014

  • Our baby has been hearing a lot of their older brother crying. He's going thru a slight terrible 3 stage, not too bad. And a lot of "Mommy's tired!". We also just got Mario Kart for the Wii. My DH was all "not my type of game". Guess who's playing it when our son is sleeping and asks me to play? So baby has been hearing some cuss words when mommy kicks daddy's butt : )
This reminds me of an epic parenting fail last week. We were in the store buying dark chocolate for my grandma. My DH and son love gummies. He buys them "for our son" and then eats at least half of them lol. Anyways, he was looking at the candy and says "Holy shitballs, they have organic gummies" (we like organic foods). I roll me eyes and keep walking but hear our son says "shitballs!" And points to the gummies! I was so embarrassed. Luckily no one was around and he hasn't said it since.
  • I talk to "her" (myself) a lot...  She'll know the office pretty well by the time she makes her appearance, and country music.

I have a mini library of books that I've been reading to my belly ever since my embryo transfer, even before my BFP, so I'll continue to do that.  I also sing to baby a ton.  I'm an actual singer, so s/he might as well get used to it :-)  I'm sure s/he also enjoys my loud car tunes!  I haven't felt any movement yet other than bubbles once last week, but hopefully once that starts I'll be able to figure out if baby likes country or classical haha.

  • Lots of sports screaming still happening in my house as we are 49ers fans and DH is a Lakers fan (and they suck right now).  That will continue on until the Super Bowl/hockey playoffs are over.  I'm currently directing the musical Once Upon a Mattress so lots of that soundtrack.  And DH plays sax/flute/bass/whatever instrument he feels like that day for at least an hour a day.

My baby is going to know the Mario kart theme song from Wii. That seems to be the daddy/son weekly bonding activity. :).
  • The twins are going to think they're being born into a war zone with all the screaming and tantrum throwing DD has been doing lately. When I was pregnant with her I spent most days in law school classes...she passed the bar exam before I did. But seriously...have fun, talk to your babies if you want, but I don't honestly think they're going to be smarter if you play classical music etc.

  • When pregnant with the girls, DH would read them a story every night. It was such a sweet thing to see and experience. I am sure he will do the same in the next couple of weeks. I also have Belly Buds and plan to play music for the baby.

  • Last night I played some James Taylor on my phone while I was laying in bed, and when I put it near my stomach, little boy started moving around like crazy! Not sure if it was a coincidence or the music really got him moving, but either way I was excited :)
  • I'll fess up that last week I started to play music to my belly using headphones... figure if I'm sitting around watching tv, I might as well pop some music on while I'm sitting around. Can't hurt to try! Been playing some lullaby CDs I would like to play later once LO arrived (Kenny Loggins has two adorable CDs I love) and also mixing in some chill Jack Johnson tunes. Plan to start reading to my belly ASAP and will probably record myself doing a few different favorite books so I can play them on my belly without having to actually read them every time! As a teacher, I don't care how crazy it sounds or if it's a waste of my time- anything I can do to instill a love of reading, I'll try!

Definitely got some kicks when "Return to Pooh Corner" came on which touched my heart :) My favorite too, Baby Bear!!

  • I'm actually recording a lullaby CD for the baby. I used to be a singer (musical theatre) full time. We have a little music studio in the house so I figured why not. I also read that if you sing the same song to baby frequently in the womb, he will recognize it and usually finds it soothing after birth. We shall see... Either way it's a fun activity to keep me busy.
  • I guess I should have rethought blasting Moves Like Jagger in the car all the time when pregnant with DD.

  • I'm obsessed with HGTV so baby will know all about buying, selling and remodeling homes lol :-)
