Recommend your baby carrier

My son will be 2 years old when this baby is born. I'd love to find a good baby carrier to wear the baby since I will be chasing my son all over the place. I have used a Moby which I loved, but once my son got to be about 15 pounds it was uncomfortable for me to wear. I had a lot of joint pain after I gave birth, so something gentle on the joints would be nice. Do you love your carrier and if so what do you have? Thanks!

  • I'm getting the Tula and infant insert. It's like the ergo but holds a bigger toddler and I'm hoping to use it for both the new little and my DS.

  • I have a Beco Gemini which is very similar to the Ergo, only your baby can also face out.  LOVE it.  I still carry my 25 pound toddler in it without any strain!

We use a Boba for our 20 month old. I'd love to get a Tula (or two.)

Edited because spell check doesn't trust me.
  • Ergo or a Conversion Mai Thai

  • I loved the baby k'tan when dd was brand new. It was a life saver. We used a baby Bjorn when she got bigger but I didn't really like it. I will be getting an ergo this time around.
  • Boba and Ergo!

  • I am a bit carrier hoarder... we have an ergo which was awesome for keeping in the car, I used it a ton! We also have a wrap converted ring sling (which I plan on using a ton with a newborn), a mei tei, and a woven wrap which I used in the house A LOT because it was the easiest/most supportive on my back. There was a phase when DS would only nap well in a carrier, and my woven was a life saver!! We have had several others (wraps, beco, etc all come and go, but I held onto just 4 for future kids). I kind of want to try out a Tula this time around too, I have heard they are amaze balls.

  • Started with the Ergo, and quickly progressed to a variety of carriers. Since it will be summer, I'm looking to go with a lightweight (or airy) woven wrap. Once we're out of hiding, I'll ask my local babywearing group for recommendations.
We're also looking to upgrade DD1 into a toddler carrier, and I'm hoping to tandem carry

  • I hated our Ergo, I never felt comfortable in it. I am planning on getting a toddler Tula for my son, and I love that you can get a really high back carry with it. I also love woven wraps, but my son doesn't share that love anymore so I'll be saving them for the new baby.

  • I love my mei tai, which I love because I can wear baby on my front or back, and apparently you can still wear them as toddlers. But I just have to say watch out for "crotch danglers". There have been cases where they cause hip displasia. And by that I mean make sure legs are spread wide like they would if you were holding them over your hip, not with their legs dangling straight down.

  • I used a mei tai when she was tiny. Loved the Beco Gemini as she got a little bigger.

A Baby Bjorn is a great example of a narrow-based carrier, or crotch dangler. They are really popular, and are a safe carrier, but can make it worse for a child who has hip dysplasia. You want to have a carrier that has knee-to-knee coverage.

  • I love my ergo. But I'm looking for something I can wear in the summer that's not super hot any suggestions?

Boba makes a BobaAir carrier. Super lightweight, but I don't recommend for use for extended periods.

OP: started with a moby, then a ergo performance, ring sling, girasol diamond weave rainbow woven wrap, BobaAir, and now we have a Tula toddler. Love them all for specific reasons. Can't settle on just one. However, the Ergo and ringsling were probably the most used until DS out grew the ergo. Now we use mainly the Tula.

  • I love my Ergo!! It so comfortable and easy to use!
  • I've tried Ergo, didn't like it. Love my Beco Butterfly 2 (I think that's what its called). We use it everywhere, sometimes for my almost 3 yr old and sometimes for my almost 1 yr old. Both kids are 23 lbs. Got it when I was pg with DS and it made transitioning from one kid to two so much easier. You can wear baby in front, back, and on your hip.

  • Our go to from birth was a woven wrap. Yes it is a bit of a learning curve but is the most versatile in mind. Front/back/hip carries and you can use between SO and you. We also used a ring sling for quick in and outs. Great for breast feeding on the go too if you plan to do that. You can use the tail to cover if you wanted. We also use two conversion mei tai's which have been great for fussy, I don't wanna be wrapped days. For easier sometimes than struggling to staynstill for wrapping. We never used any buckle carriers but they work great as long as they provide knee to knee coverage. Newborns will likely require an insert or modifications like a towel under bum in them.

  • My world's most difficult baby hated everything other than facing outward in the Bjorn.  You know, exactly what they're "not supposed" to do.  I'm sure it's a miracle he doesn't have hip damage or any issues from not gazing lovingly into my eyes all day long.

I hope to use my Ergo this time, but will get a K-Tan for early on.  My sister has one and loves it, so I will either borrow hers if I decide I can use an XS, or I'll get a new one for me.

  • I used the hot sling when DD was infant, would have used longer but she stopped likely it. Then used infantino Mei Tai and loved it. So versatile.

  • We started out with the moby wrap, but I hated how complicated and bulky it was. Over the summer we got the Beco Soleil and it is amazing! Wish I had it from the beginning. I plan on getting the newborn insert and using it right away this time around.
