no urge to urinate??

So today I am 2 weeks pp. I had a 2nd degree tear (dr said was was same location as my 3rd degree tear from DS1). I have had a very easy recovery and feel great except that since lo was born I have not had "the urge" to pee. I'll just start to feel a little soreness/achy-ness down below and go to the bathroom and feel like I pee for hours there is so much. I drink lots of fluids and never feel like I'm leaking so I think my muscles are competent, I just never feel like I have to go until I am so full my body has to send other signals to tell me to empty. Anybody else experience this? I don't remember this happening after DS1, so am wondering if I should call the Dr.... I honest to god have an alarm on my cell phone to remind me to pee throughout the day.

Re: no urge to urinate??

  • I've experienced the same thing pretty much, I'm curious to see what the responses are. I just assumed it was due to the lack of pressure on my bladder since giving birth. I constantly felt like I had to pee while pregnant.
  • Loading the player...
  • Same here I remind myself to pee sometimes
  • This happened to me to, it is pretty normal. There is no longer pressure on your bladder so it will fill up to capacity.

  • Glad I'm not alone! Any idea how long it typically lasts?

It took about a week for my body to realize "it's full so go pee now!" But it did go back to normal around a week after delivery

Yes. Same here. I think I've actually gone all day long without peeing. That can't be healthy. And I drink a lot too, so weird.

Yes! In the beginning I didn't notice it because I was in the bathroom frequently taking care of other pp needs, but when things started healing and bleeding was barely existent I was going pretty much all day not peeing and never noticing.

  • I would also be curious to how many of us had epidurals or catheters?
  • I did. Only for about 2.5 hours. Also had both with DS1 though.

I didn't have either and I've noticed a big decrease in feeling the pee urge. I'm 6.5 weeks pp and while it's improving, I still have to remind myself to pee sometimes.

I had a spinal and catheter and I have no urge at all. I've asked DH to remind me to pee and considered the phone alarm too. Last week I had a lot of pain after peeing (not during) and I thought my bladder was mad at me for filling it up too much! My dr thinks it was a UTI or urethritis and gave me an antibiotic and now the pain is gone. Still no urge tho! I did not have thus with DS1. Hope it comes back!

  • I had that after my c section-I assumed it was bc of the catheter but not sure if u had one...I would have to remind myself to go and then when I would it would come our very slowly more like trickle. It lasted several weeks...
  • Same here. Epidural with no cath. I ended up with a UTI at about 5 weeks pp so I would definitely remember the fluids and go often!

  • I am still experiencing the same thing. I had a c-section and I guess it was from the cath. I am 4 weeks pp.

    I had both.

I peed half my weight out the first week. I never noticed no urge to pee but the nurses at the hospital did tell me to get up and pee even if I didn't feel like it. I suppose for just this reason. It seems that a lot of my weight gain was water so it went right out.
Eta: I did notice peeing felt weird until a few days ago. I blame the catheter.
  • I had a med-free birth and I have the same issue. Had it with DD1 as well (had IV drugs with her). I've chalked it up to not having a 7 lb baby directly on my bladder....of course I'd feel like I have to go much less!

  • I had almost no urge to go at first. At 3 wks pp, it's come back a little. I had an epidural, and the cath was in for 48hours because I had some complications after delivery. From what I read, having a cath, a large baby, significant tearing/episiotomy, and a forceps delivery can all contribute to this...and lucky me, I had all 4! :(

  • My Dr's nurse said it isn't abnormal and to drink lots and empty every two hours to retrain your bladder. Said the length of time that it lasts varies from woman to woman.
