Uppababy Vista vs. City Select

We've been looking at strollers for a while, and have finally nailed it down to the Uppababy Vista and the City Select.  We like the Uppababy slightly better, but the duo-seats with City Select seem better.  This is our first child, and although we do plan on having another one, I'm just not sure if we should base our decision on that just yet.  Anyone has any opinions/suggestions?

Re: Uppababy Vista vs. City Select

  • If you think you might use it for a second child I would definitely go with the City Select. There are way more configurations when using a second seat with the City Select and the 2nd seat on the CS is more comfortable than the rumble seat on the Uppababy. We just bought the CS and had compared the two. Good luck!

  • If you want a single go with the UPPA, if you eventually want a double go with the City Select. That's the way I would make my decision if I was you. HOWEVER, with the UPPA 2011 sales, you're getting way more for your money (bassinet, bumper bar, rain and mosquito) as opposed to a select that is just the stroller. The negative I see is that if you had a 2nd and then needed a double (bc realistically the rumble seat just doesn't cut it) and wanted to sell your UPPA the resale is not going to be good. With their current sale on 2011s, I think they sort of killed their own future resale market. So if resale is something important to you because you may want a double, it's also something to consider.

  • I had my heart set on the Uppababy but ended up going with the City Select because we were hoping to have two kids not too far apart in age.  I saw the Uppababy with the Rumble seat once (or whatever they call their second seat)  and I just felt so bad for the little baby that was practically sitting on the ground where all the dust was kicking up.  It was horrible!  I love that the City Select had tow full size seats that could both sit up nice and high.
  • We have a bjcs because I did not want a rumble seat when we went to using the stroller for 2, and I love that you don't lose the storage room when you go to a double (you do with strollers that have a rumble seat)

We tested both as doubles and singles and I just felt that the quality was better with the bjcs.

  • I chose the city select for us, but keep this in mind... If you plan on spacing out your kids by 2+ years you may not need the double as some children will not tolerate being in a stroller once they learn to walk.

  • I would get the Uppa Baby - it's a much nicer stroller! The single-to-double strollers are great when you have 2u2, but they need to be perfected! I had the B-Ready and LOVED it for my 2u2, until my 12m old got his finger pinched in the rear wheels - so they need to fix that. The only other similar stroller (besides Phil & Ted's where the seat does not recline) is the BJ City Select, which to me, is far from perfect too. I did just buy it b/c I need a double stroller, but my point is, I think they still are trying to perfect them, so I would hold off unless you really need it. By the time you have #2, they'll probably have way more/better options out there!!

why spend money on a single stroller and then a double stroller later?  This was our rationale and could not be happier w/the City Select!  That is my vote.  It is an amazing stroller as a single or double...win win!

Hi, I'm having the exact same dilemma!  Like you, this will be my first baby and I would love to have my second one soon after.  I too was already set on the UPPABABY VISTA, untill I discovered there were other strollers that did a much better job when converted to a double stroller. Out of those, I liked the City Select better.  But I still like the VISTA better as a single stroller.  After comparing them side by side, I did feel like everything worked a little smoother on the VISTA, for example: The lever you pull on to recline the seat works smoother on the VISTA and it's easier to click the seat in on the VISTA as well.  Overall, the VISTA feels like it's better quality than the City Select.  Also, the rubber covering the handle bar on the CIty Select at my local store is already torn and is coming off.  That kinda worried me, the guy at the store said it's because when you fold it, you have to be careful not to let the handle bar touch the floor or this will happen.  And since the City Select doesn't stand when folded like the VISTA does, then this is something that will likely happen.  Another thing I like about the VISTA better is the cushioned bumper bar with the removable & washable cover.  The bumper bar on the CS doesn't look as comfortable for the baby. But over all...  it's the quality of the CS that worries me a bit, at least compared to the VISTA.

Someone brought up a good point, what if by the time we have our second baby there are better double strollers out there?  What if by that time the City Select is even better than it is now?  This is another reason I have not made my decision yet.  I can tell you, if I had 2 babies right now, I wouldn't even hesitate to get the City Select because of course the most important thing for me is that my babies will be comfortable, and there is no doubt that they will be more comfortable on the city select since with 2 full seats that recline vs the uncomfortable rumble seat on the VISTA.

But, like you, I just don't know if I should buy the VISTA (which I think is better quality) now and then make a change whenever I have my second baby...  I'm torn! :S

I would get what you need for now so get the Vista.  The City Select isn't that great and honestly, I am sure that in the next 2 years there are going to be some nicer and better options on the market. I had a Vista with my first and sold it for over 50% of what I paid 2 years later.  I almost went with the City Select for #1 because we knew we wanted kids close together but I am SO glad I didn't.  I like the side by side double WAY better and I needed something that would handle our walks better than the City Select.  Anyways, buy for now and you can always sell and trade things out later.  You may have different stroller needs by the time you have another.

  • I had the same debate and decided to worry about the double later on. Who knows how far apart our kids will be and like PP said, your older one may not want to ride very much. I actually with with the Uppababy Cruz. It has all the features of the Vista without the rumbleseat (which we dont need) it is lighter and less expensive. I love it! Baby isn't here yet, but we have it and it is great! Plus like PP, in 2 years, there may be much better options!

  • We've just started TTC, but we're facing the same dilemma.  We know we're going to want a second and wanted the option of a convertible stroller.  Has anyone had success with the rumble seat?
  • I have both strollers. I got the vista in 2011 when I only had one child. It makes a great single stroller. I love it still and refuse to sell it in hopes of being able to use it again. Then I had another baby in 2013 (my girls are 28 months apart) and I purchased the city select. I went to buybuybaby with the idea of buying the rumble seat. They had one on display and I put my older Daughter in the rumble seat and the car seat in the main sitting area and she looked so squished! She's already 32 lbs and the rumble seat only holds 35lbs. There's no recline or snack tray. A snack tray can save your sanity at drs appointments or shopping. So I went and purchased the city select. While I don't love it as much, it's a much better double. I had assumed that my older daughter would be more interested in walking by now but as soon as the baby is in the stroller she wants to go in also. I also have a city mini gt double which I love. It's so much easier to push and really only slightly wider then the convertible strollers.
  • Back when I was pregnant with DS1, I seriously considered the BJCS because I thought it would be nice to have a double when the time came for baby #2.  Fast forward 3-1/2 years later, pregnant with DS2, and I am so happy I didn't invest in that stroller, because I never would've used it as a double.  DS1 is 3 yrs 3 mos now and barely ever rides in a stroller anymore, and hasn't since he was about 2-1/2.  The BJCS really is a great doubles stroller, but I don't think it's a great single stroller.  It is REALLY big.  The frame is very long, compared to other single strollers, and it's heavier than other comparable single strollers.

On the flip side, the UBV really isn't built to be a double stroller.  The rumble seat works in a pinch, but it's not good for everyday use.  The UBV is a really great stroller, but it is also fairly big and heavy, and the fold is a little tricky.  It's a "luxury" stroller and comes with a lot, but it's also very expensive.  If you decide you want a single stroller, put the BJ City Versa on your list as well (that's the one we're going with this time - couldn't justify the cost of the UBV).  It's a really nice stroller, more compact than the UBV with an easier fold, and even with buying the bassinet separately, it's still about $250 less than the UBV.

In the end, my advice is to really, seriously consider how far apart you might have children.  If you definitely, for sure, know that you want them close together, get the BJCS, but I don't think that stroller is worth the size and bulk if you think you might have kids 2.5+ years apart.  You may not know right now, and that's OK... I thought I would have kids 2 years apart, and I ended up not even close to ready for a 2nd until DS1 was almost 3... If you invest in a good single stroller now (like UBV), you can always resell it and recoup part of the cost if you decide you need a double later.
  • I have the same dilemma. I have no words of advice, but I think I'm going to go with the Uppababy. It's a better quality stroller and it's not as bulky which is really important to me because I'm on the smaller side and loading and unloading is a pain. I'd like to have another one in 2-3 years but I figure at that age a three year old will want to walk some, so the rumble seat will do. If not, there's undoubtably going to be an even better double stroller by then. It's an investment but when added up with the car seat and accessories, there's not a drastic difference in price. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the vista will be worth it, they both have good reviews!

  • DD is 13 months old and #2 is on the way. They will be 19 months apart. I bought the UBV and while its a good quality stroller, I found it to be bulky and big. It's great for walks around the neighborhood but for errands etc. I always found it to be a huge pain. It's not super easy to get in and out of my car, takes up a lot of space, and have wide back wheels making navigating through smaller stores and areas hard. I know people rave about this stroller..but it's just my experience with it.

I'm kicking myself for buying it. We bought the Gluxe umbrella stroller and as soon as DD could sit up, we've used that over the vista because it's lightweight and easier. Now with 2 so close together I'm torn on what to do since the rumble seat configuration kind of stinks!
