June 2014 Moms

Official Intro and Due Date Question

Hello! I've been lurking on here for a while and was slightly active on the TTGP boards. It's been nice to have a place to check in with the goings-on of all you expectant mommas and feel less alone! Very briefly about me… Been married about 4.5 years; I am 27, DH is 30. I am a 7th grade math teacher. This will be our first child after trying over a year and DH going on Clomid for low T/low sperm count. Obviously we are very excited!

In my experience so far, the ladies on The Bump are more knowledgeable about all things conceiving than some doctors are, so I have a question. I had been tracking my cycles all but the one we conceived on, so I had a decent idea of my ovulation and cycles (but not completely accurate that month). According to my estimation, I'll be 16 weeks on Tuesday. According to my last menstrual cycle I'll be 17 weeks on Tuesday. According to my 8-week ultrasound I'll be 15 weeks next week. At the doctor on Friday they set my "official" due date at July 9th based on the early ultrasound from our RE, even though I had calculated July 1st (so they set me back a week). They didn't seem to interested in when I typically ovulate or anything...

I know the due date is always just an estimate and I'm not tied down to that (I've just been saying end of June), but I'd like to "decide" how far along I am and go with it (for when I'm asked my friends, when I'm taking bump pictures, tracking weight gain, etc.). So, just out of curiosity, which would you pick?

Thanks, and I look forward to becoming more active on the board!

Re: Official Intro and Due Date Question

  • Welcome! I would go with what the dating u/s said - you could have O'd earlier or later than you thought and that's probably the most accurate date to go by. EDDs are always plus or minus a week, so you're still around the time you thought you'd be!

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • @kaceymarie, everything about your wedding dress makes me happy. And your hair is gorg.

  • i would just go by what they say 'cause they'll be going by that at all your appointments & such.

this. My obs office makes me verify my due date each time. Not sure why..... But I have to remember what they told me

  • With my LMP date, I had a EDD of June 18th, but after a dating u/s it changed to June 24th. That is what my OB office goes by now, so I do the same. It might change after the a/s, but I'd just be on the same page as your doctor.

  • Congrats and welcome! I agree with PP's. go with what the OB says. As nice as it would be to be a week ahead I would just get confused.

  • Congrats and welcome! I would just go with what your OB says because that's what will be on your file, etc. I know it can be confusing though, I was given a different due date at my ultrasound than what my OB had given me. In the end though, the baby will come when he or she is ready!
  • Welcome and congratulations! Like PP's said, I would go by the date your OB is using.

Go by the date your OB is using like PPs said. I tracked the cycle I got pregnant so the OB has my due date at 6/14, first u/s gave me 6/18, and then my last u/s gave me 6/10. But since I tracked it my OB is sticking with 6/14 so that's what I've been telling people my EDD is. And welcome and congrats!!

    Edit: for spelling

  • Congrats and Welcome! It's been said already, but yes, go with what your OB gave you as a date. Wishing you a H&H journey ahead!!

  • I would go with the dating ultrasound - early ultrasounds are pretty accurate.  Plus you want the later due date.  It really does matter when you get down to the end; you don't want to get pushed into an early induction (thinking you are 40 weeks when really you are only 39 or 38 for example).  Welcome!
  • Go with the first ultrasound. I had the same issue in a way. According to my lmp I was due June 4 but according to my first ultrasound I was due June 9th. The u/s tech said that the dr usually doesn't change the due date unless it's a week off. But she said my dating was most likely off.
  • Welcome and Congrats! I agree with everyone, use the u/s EDD. Especially nice for teachers to have a summer baby. :)
