3rd Trimester

Could my due date be off?

I know this sounds crazy since I'm 35 weeks but I haven't been convinced since my first check ups that my due date is right. My LMP was May 4th & I come up with my due date as Feb. 7. The Dr. said the 7th too at my first appt. he was able to measure the embryo & that's what he was given. When I went back a few weeks later, he said the 7th again but when he measured on the ultrasound, the computer said the 14th. That's what he went with. My SIL does ultrasounds & when she has peeked he has always measured a full week ahead of where I was. Could my due date be off?

Re: Could my due date be off?

  • Yes its always possible to have your DD be off... you could have ovulated later than you thought... Either way your DD is just a guess anyway. I wouldn't worry about it if it's close to the DD they originally gave you.

  • The baby is going to come when they are ready, no matter what the doctor says your due date is.

It's entirely possible that you ovulated a little late.  Usually, when doctors measure the size of the embryo to determine gestational age, if that due date is pretty close to the EDD they get using date of your last period, they just let it ride.  So if the few were only days apart, then he probably just went with your LMP date and called it good.   When it comes to later u/s, they aren't NEARLY as accurate for estimating due date because every baby grows at a different rate.  THis is why some ladies have 7-pound babies and some have 11-pound babies.  That's a pretty big difference.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  • There is a 2 week discrepancy between my dates and my doctors dates. I say I'm due February 21st but my dating ultrasound says march 7th, exactly 2 weeks off. I know when I had my last period but hey I may have ovulated at a different time, who knows. All I do know is baby wil come when he's good and ready! Good luck!!
  • I know I ovulated a week "late" because I was charting. My dr was originally concerned at my initial ultrasound because baby was measuring a week later than expected, but when I told her I knew when I had ovulated, she felt better. So I go off ovulation date and not LMP. Not all cycles are 28 days and mine were never regular.

  • My LMP was April 25th and my EDD was Feb 8th, I had an early ultrasound and believe Io ovulated about three weeks after the start of my period. It seems to have that EDD you would have had to ovulate right after your period ended? Either way, it is only an estimate.
