NBR Work Dilema, Advice?

So after a year in Vegas we've decided that since buying a home doesn't seem to be in the cards (not enough inventory, too many investors outbidding with cash, just not our kinda place), very little family support, just not our speed we are moving back north to Lake Tahoe. Luckily I've found a job already and they'd like me to start in March which is coincidental since our lease on our rental is up in Feb. Problem is I'm actually dreading telling my current employer. Professional guidelines say to give 30 days notice so to do that I would need to give notice the end of this month. I'm just wondering how to lay this down gently...any recommendations?

Re: NBR Work Dilema, Advice?

  • What's the worry about telling your current employer? You like the job or no? Afraid of different treatment? Is it more of a professional setting or friendly?

It is usually recommended to give a resignation in writing. but if you have a good relationship with your boss maybe tell in person to be nice and then give a letter afterwards.

  • Sorry for the scant details. I do very much like my job. I'm friends with my direct manager and on very good terms with my boss (who was one of my clinical instructors when I was a student). I guess I'm worried about telling her because I'm leaving in the middle of an academic year and I believe this will come as a surprise to her. It's purely based on the welfare and benefit of my family. I would always give it in writing. I'm brig a weenie....

  • While I am sure your employer will be sad to see you go, you are leaving to better support your family.  Most people understand that.
