Potty Training woes...

Well my son was gung ho about using the potty and thought it was the coolest thing to not go to the bathroom in his diaper! I continued to encourage him but not force him to use his potty. Well I don't think his mom is encouraging him to use his potty when he is at her house because now we are where we started. He's back to peeing/pooping in his diaper and throws a fit when I ask him if he has to go or if I say just try to go he throws a fit. I do not force him to sit there nor do I punish him for not using his potty but I want him to get back into the habit of using it. Please tell me this natural for kids to go back and forth during these stages.

  • Of course it is.

    How old is he?

I've said it before: kids won't PT until they are ready, and there is no point in pushing it.

This.  Kids at first think it's novel but don't have a sustained interest until they are ready.
  • it is normal, but consistency is key...
  • He is 2 yrs old...okay I feel a little better now that you all say its normal! LOL!

This again. We have gone in potty streaks since about 1.5. She's now 2.5. Somedays she really cares, the next she doesn't want a thing to do with it. Also, while some kids may have an interest in PTing they may not have the muscle control to fully figure it out/make the head/body connection just yet. Whatever. One day she'll wake up and get it. Sooner than later. My pedi told me none of this was a big deal until past 3 so let them grow into or there's a likelihood of bigger problems down the line.
  • It is absolutely normal.  DD did this when we tried PTing at 2.  I knew she could do it and she did it for a while.  Then she just stopped.  She wouldn't sit, wouldn't try and tantrumed when we tried to talk to her about it.  We stopped and tried again at 2.5.  It has gone fine this time and she's almost completely day-trained.
