One more RSV post

Mamas with babies with RSV- I've noticed on a lot of your posts that you caught it early. What were the early symptoms, or what sent you to the doctor? Since this is the time for these kinds of illnesses, I want to make sure I, and other bumpies, catch it early as well.

  • The cough.  Poor thing couldn't stop coughing, especially at night/first thing in the morning.

The very first symptom was poor feeding. Then came the worst cough you have ever heard in your life. Very congested and mucousy as PP mentioned. Then came the vomiting up the small amount of formula he ate with a coughing fit. Then there were retractions - which are nothing to play around with.

These babies need a lot of chest PT, suctioning and humidified air. Be careful for dehydration which can be recognized by dry diapers. My LO requires oxygen now which is what's keeping us hospitalized. Trust your mommy instincts and get these babes checked if you suspect RSV!

Edit: my LO never had a fever, his temp was always and still is 98.

Same. At first the cough was dry, but the next night it was more mucousy and I realized it wasn't just dry throat from the heat like was originally thought. Also she was sniffly/congested. No fever here either.
