Cloth Diaper Mommas

It seems like there are quite a few of us that are using cloth. How is it going for you so far? Any tips or tricks now that you've got some experience with them?

We just started using ours on Thursday, and like them so far! First load of laundry today, so we'll see how that goes. We have primarily prefolds and fitteds for the newborn stage, with a few all-in-ones mixed in. We are experimenting a little before buying more in largar sizes. :)

Re: Cloth Diaper Mommas

  • I found that they clean better if I soak them in hot water in my washing machine for an hour before washing. I have been using all in ones and pockets and both work great. How are the pre-fold working for you? I also use miofresh in each load and makes them smell a lot cleaner than if I just use detergent. Baby's skin is so much more irritated in sposies... I surprisingly love cloth- my husband not so much :) let me know if you find anything else that you love when washing them.

  • We have gdiapers and are using disposable inserts but now that LO is down to one or two bm a day we are switching to cloth inserts next week. We have some pocket diaper hand me downs from my cousin and we are going to use those at night from now on because LO pees so much in 3 hrs the gdiapers leak!
  • Dumb question probably but @sailortink how did you hook up the little shower head and where/what kind did you get?
  • Been using our cloth during the day since getting home from the NICU. Had a couple leaks, but LO has teeny tiny chicken legs. We use Blueberry Basix AIOs and I love them. I have a large stash (27), but wash every day and a half. Using disposables at night simply for ease and quickness.

We are battling a nasty rash right now, so we're changing more frequently, doing some air time, baking soda/tea tree oil soaks, and covering with coconut oil.

I had made my own wipes and spray, but LO seems to like the traditional ones better. I may try mine again at some point, but for now I don't want to rock that boat.

  • @ampitts, the prefolds are working well so far, although it's only been 3 days. :). I am surprised to find that when he pees, the WHOLE prefold is soaked. No leaks yet though.

I am aiming to get all-in-ones for our one-size stash. So far I like the look of Blueberry Simplex or Rumparooz. I will have to see how we like the newborn version of them for now.

  • @Soozerella, did you switch CD styles, or go to sposies?

  • @boothbaby the inserts are the same way- completely soaked but no leaks so far. I really like kawaii and happy flutes. Cheap but working well so far. Alvas work well but are bulky between her legs now. I think they will be better when she's a bit older.
  • We love our cloth, this is our 2nd cloth diaper baby. I have an array of every kind and brand. My favorite fitteds are Osocozy and favorite AIOs are Simplex.

  • I've been doing prefolds and fitted with covers, bum genius 4.0 pockets, charlie bananas and flips. I was about to give up on prefolds and fitted bc LO doesn't like feeling wet, but I'm going to get some liners to put between baby and diaper to wick away moisture. I use prefolds and fitted during the day and pockets at night. I'm about to buy more pockets bc DH finds them easier and we'll need more for daycare.
