I don't know much about hypnobabies, but for those who do, it may help them answer if you explain what worked and what didn't work for you with hypnobirthing.

  • Yes, perhaps you could elaborate on this post.  What type of preparation did you do?  Which is to say, did you take the class, read the book, etc.  Also what didn't you like about specifically?  Did the breathing not help, were the CDs distracting, etc?
  • Bradley method is a great class to take. Lots of practical tools that you and your husband learn. Also hire a doula! Lots of research has proven doulas present at births drastically reduce the use of pain meds and unnecessary interventions.
  • The original question is good too...what is the difference? I only have a vague understanding of what hypnobabies is. Can someone sum up the difference?

  • I read the Book and listened to the CDs every night for a month. My contractions started pretty fast and I found it hard to focus and get myself to that state of mind.

Now with that said, I didn't take a class and my husband didn't care to learn the techniques so I didn't have someone there to help me mentally.

Hypnobirthing is not meant to be self-study method, so to read the book and listen to the CD that comes with it will not be enough for most people.  I know I would not have had the positive experiences I had if I had not taken the class.

If you still like the overall principles of Hypno for childbirth, then Hypnobabies might be a good fit for you as you can purchase a self-study course and never have to take a class.

Bradley would probably not be an option for you unless you picked a different coach since it sounds like your husband is not interested and Bradley is considered a 'husband-coached approach' at least that's the way I understand it (I have never taken the class, so please someone chime in if I am wrong).

Have you considered hiring a doula?
  • I really feel like Hypnobabies has been awesome but it has calmed my nerves. My due date is February 6 and I have no anxiety or fears, its helped me become confident and trusting! Its awesome
