Adoption

Our baby girl has arrived

My sweet, beautiful baby girl came into this world Wednesday morning, 1/8 at 4:01 AM weighing 7 lb 6 oz at 20 3/4 inch long 33 hours after my water breaking and going into labor. Her Mommy and Daddy were there for most of those hours and her Daddy caught her while her Mommy encouraged me. She even grasped her Mom's finger the whole time we were skin-to-skin and nursed like a champ. After that, they both got to hold her and love on her while we all napped. The following two days in the hospital were difficult, but amazing to see her Mom and Dad take care of her. It reminded me of why I made this decision when I needed it most. Friday morning I signed TPR and nursed her before we were discharged from the hospital.

My heart aches more than anything I've ever experienced and I miss her desperately, but I know with every part of my being that I made the best decision for her. Despite the pain, I feel so blessed to be her Mom and to have an important role in her life. Her Mom and Dad are adjusting to life with a newborn and sleep deprivation but madly in love. Her favorite spot is snuggled up on her Dad's shoulder.

I will see her again on Tuesday or Wednesday to take her pumped milk supply and probably once a week after when we're able to coordinate as long as I'm pumping. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated for the healing process, for my baby girl as she adjusts to life without me and transitioning from breast milk, and for her Mom and Dad in their transition as well.

@Carolinagirl, what you have done is truly a blessing and you are the reason we thought adoption would be an easier process.  Its so nice to hear from BM's that really do want what is best for the baby and your love for her will always be known.  I know your heart must be breaking and I am sure your DD parents are sad for you too, but through your open adoption you will get to watch her grow.  Giving you a big (HUG) for the journey you have been so gracious to share with us.

  • You are an amazing, selfless woman. Your little girl will always know how much she is loved by her birth mom and adoptive mom. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

  • As an adoptee myself, what you have just done for your baby girl is the most selfless and loving thing a mom could do.  I was reunited with my BM after 32 years and while I can't understand what you are going through, I am close to someone who has.  She has loved me every day of her life and she put my needs ahead of her own at the time.  Perfect Grace!
