BFing Moms, re: dairy

A few of you have mentioned knowing that your LOs have a lactose intolerance or dairy sensitivity/allergy. What tipped you off that that was the problem? I've read the list of symptoms and it feels like that same list applies for so many other conditions, what helped you figure out that dairy was causing the issues?

  • Elimination of dairy. If the symptoms improve then dairy is most likely the cause.
  • Loading the player...
  • It can take up to two weeks for dairy to clear from the system.
  • Her poop was green. The pedi tested her diaper and it had traces amount of blood in the stool. She said to try taking out dairy to see if it improves. So far- still green but it's been less than a week so I'm hopeful it will improve soon.

Yeah I read even up to 3 which is why I asked because limiting dairy isn't really telling me if that's the problem yet so I was curious if any one had any specific red flags.

  • For me, it was really bad reflux. I've read blood in stool is a usual sign but that hasn't happened here yet.
  • Pedi recommended elimination due to her reflux problems and raw diaper rash. No green poops or blood though. If it isn't making a difference then they'll do Pepcid.

  • Very bad reflux and fussiness. Plus blood in the stool. It took almost three weeks to see a difference but it was like night and day.

  • With DS1 who had MSPI he was extremely fussy, gassy, had horrible reflux and green stool with blood.
  • Thanks so much for weighing in ladies. Doesn't sound like dairy is the culprit. I'm having some major witching hour/colic issues with the little guy every night and keep looking for things that could be causing it, but it may just be par for the course I guess.
