Thank God!

So LO has been really fussy and colicky as soon as the sun goes down, like clock work 6pm-3am he wants to cry. No matter what I try swaddling, feeding, rocking, bouncing, drops, gripe water. Nothing works. UNTIL NOW. The doctor said to make him sleep. When he wakes up to eat he is to only be awake for an hour and forty five minutes. Then put him back to sleep. I hate this cause I get no "play time" but he has done WONDERS since we tried this out. He still fusses at night. But it's not for hours, maybe 30 min at most. Then he's out like a light. I'm finally starting to get my sanity back. If your in the same boat try it!!!

  • Hey there - my baby used to only take tiny cat naps until I started doing what you're describing. It's actually lined out really well in the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child - worth a read!

Exactly how are you "making him sleep"????

  • I hold him in what the doctor calls the head lock of love. One arm around his shoulders and neck while keeping his pacifier in his mouth the other over his back and butt and just hold him as tight as I can. Then a combo of bouncing/ swaying and instead of shushing he likes if I say hey a ton of times lol

I need some sort of diagram to help clarify :-/
  • So you are "swaddling" him with your arms?
  • I had to do this for one of the babies at work. She had to be held very close and swaddled and she also hated shhh I had to say now now now hey hey hey. Glad you found a system that works!!!! Yeah for sleeping!
  • I dont know why when I upload it turns the pictures. But thats how I hold him since there was some confusion. It's easier to show than try to explain. But you have to have your arms pretty tight. And their knees bent so it puts pressure on their belly.
  • I had the same problem with LO crying for hours. Then I figured out she needed sleep. The hard part is getting her to sleep and stay asleep. DH just figured out to cradle her in his arms but face down and rocking side to side. She was out in less than 10 min. If I start making her go to sleep before she even fusses I just hold her and rock. If I wait nothing works for me besides the boob.
