Insomnia/up with baby

How are all of you doing tonight?

Arwen has been feeding nonstop all day and is likely starting her six week growth spurt. With Lily that meant zero sleep for a week.

  • I'm hoping I can get this baby to burp and take the other side. If he won't, my boob is going to keep waking me up.

  • Good luck with the growth spurt! My LOs wasn't so bad...only 2 days of hourly feedings.
I'm up BFing LO. I hope she goes right back to sleep when she finishes.

I'm seeing a pattern. From midnight to about 6 I have insomnia, and when I just start to feel tired is when LO has her "morning meltdowns" as I'm now calling them so by 10-11am I am exhausted and frustrated trying to calm her when DH finally gets up and helps to settle her before leaving for work and I collapse in bed for the rest of the day, waking my tired self up whenever LO starts to cry, then by the time DH gets home at about 7 or so pm I am usually rested enough to be up and spend time with him/eat until midnight when it starts again.

This wouldn't be so bad except there's shit that needs to get done that can only be done during "normal business hours" and DH wants me to sleep when he sleeps (at night).
  • Not doing too bad, all things considered. If it's even possible, I think LO is going thru a growth spurt in addition to the RSV. She is eating as much as every hour (but will then randomly space it out with 2.5 hrs in between...we're all over the place. I'm just glad she is eating and staying hydrated). She had one slightly scary coughing/gagging episode when we first put her down for the night, but I propped her up better in the RnP and she has been good since. I've actually gotten some sleep. Just finished a feeding and she went back down easily. Really praying that we are in the worst of it and she only improves from here.

It's like cruel punishment when they feed great on one side and go right back to sleep, but you still have a full engorged boob keeping you from getting comfortable!

  • Awake feeding Lily, I think (hope) she's at the end of her 3 week growth spurt. It was both DH and one of my sisters birthdays so we went out to dinner to our fav place and Lily slept through it all, huge success! I had my first (small) glass of wine since last March..it was delicious! I need to have them more often...except I'm wayy more tired now than I usually would be. I can't even imagine actually going out like we used to and then having to wake up to BF, that sounds awful!

  • I've been up since 12 because my LO has been fussy since 10pm. He then threw up all over my bed around 1 which was pretty scary. We immediately called our pediatrician and he just said to keep an eye on him for the rest of the night and that unless he has diarrhea, green or blood on his throw up or a temp above 99.1 to take him to the ER. Now I can't fall asleep because I'm so worry he'll throw up again. I know he is pain because he won't sleep unless I have him in my arms.
  • Up for the regular 1am feeding. DH is in with DD1, we didn't want her sleeping alone with her broken clavical just yet even though she's back to her normal self. Ugh hoping Nola goes back to sleep easily.

  • Up for my shift with baby boy (DH watched him for a few hours so I could sleep). LO is in his swing, but is making his snuffling/snorting noises in his sleep so I'm not sure he is going to stay there. Since I know I may need to pick him up, I'm having trouble relaxing so I can sleep too. So here I am, eating pop tarts and bumping at 6 AM.

  • Up feeding LO. Its DFs long weekend at work(works all 3 days 7pm-7am) so im on sole baby duty. It hasn't been bad yet at all.. only 1 more day. I do usually find myself extremely agitated after this but its only the second weekend so we shall see. He just doesn't get how hard it is to take care of him even one whole day by himself. He probably never will either.

  • Got up for our 5am feeding and the power is out... Thankful for cell phone flashlights right now and praying it comes back on soon or we will be making a morning trip to hang out at grandmas which is 30 mins away.

To top it off LOs nasal congestion has officially got me freaked out. I'm pretty sure it's just dryness because I can't suck anything out and there are no other symptoms, but I feel so bad listening to her be stuffy. All this talk of RSV is making me really nervous though. If saline drops and a steamy shower don't help I will be calling the ped on Monday :(
  • It took Lily forevvvvvver to get to bed tonight. I usually start at 10pm lights out but she was wide awake up to 1am. Then back up at 3 and then at 5 and I'm still awake pumping and praying she won't wake back up. I have a killer headache.
    Welcome Lily Anna!

  • His 3 week growth spurt has lasted for 2 weeks now and he's huge!!! Also, my 2yr old has been having night terrors for the past week and a half. Saying I'm tired is an understatement. Whine, whine, whine, sorry!

  • I had a rough night. Couldn't post because all I was doing was trying to calm LO to sleep. She would sleep great in my arms but within. Few moments of lying her down, whimpering turned to crying. I picked her back up, out like a light. I asked her if she was messing with me. Her response was a noise I know means she's fast asleep. Kid is totally coniving. I can see it in her eyes... I'm also feeling like a terrible mom because I slept through my 6 am alarm to feed her. She went 4 hours without food and as a baby who lost an ounce at the doc on Thursday, I'm beating myself up for making her go so long. I had only gotten one hour of sleep by then. I couldn't wake up. I also couldn't remember the last time I fed her which also makes me feel like terrible mom, but I am so sleep deprived... Who isn't... I just feel ashamed of myself for not waking up to feed her like I am suppose to. Now it wasn't like I slept through her crying, she was asleep too, but ugh, so much shit happened in the last 8 hours... Ok, I'm done being emotional.

Last night was by far the worst night! DD would not let me put her down all night so we co slept. I think her reflux is getting worst because she gurgled and sounded like she was choking all night. Then add in her normal growling and grunting and I am one tired mamma today.

  • Angry at my H who threw a temper tantrum over having to feed the baby at 6am. I did the feeding before and we normally take turns. He did 2 feedings in a row while I napped yesterday so he used that as an excuse why I shouldn't have woke him up.

I gave him no sorries, but did give him the silent treatment.

All my sorries. Night terrors are the WORST! I hope they are short lived.

I feel your pain. I think our reflux is getting worse to. LO was gagging, crying, arching back with tons of spit bubbles. Poor baby. I think I'm taking him in Monday to get this figured out. Does your LO take any medicine for it?

It really is! I woke up at 5-ish, and he was still sleeping, so I changed him, but then he went right back to sleep. I really really really (and on and on) should never complain about a too sleepy baby, but I wanted him to eat! Since I couldn't sleep, I got a bottle, and just expressed a couple ounces into it. I still couldn't go back to sleep, though. Oh well.

On a side note, @swirl25, I just noticed that your LO is the same age as mine. Didn't we have the same due date, too 9the 18th)? I know you were on the Wednesday ticker change. Anyway, random cool coincidence? :)  I like things like that.

Awe your poor baby :( No DD doesn't take anything for it. Honestly it really hasn't been that bad and it got better once she started sleeping in the leachco podster at night. But last night she sounded like she was drowning. If it happens again tonight I'm going to call the ped (her next appt isn't until Feb 14th).

  • Lol ours sounds like that secretary with the cats eye glasses from Monsters Inc., Roz. DH does the best impressions, I can never stop laughing. "Well well well, what do we have here?..."
  • @glowpoint - yes! Due on the 18th and she was born on Friday the 20th. Cool coincidence indeed!
