Bumpers question

LO has finally started sleeping in his crib all night. I came in this morning, and he had an arm sticking out one of the slats. He couldn't get himself moved over to get it out.

I was thinking it might be time to add some bumpers to the bed. Have any of you added bumpers? Is it considered safe at this point? He's almost 7 months.

Re: Bumpers question

  • I put a bumper on one side when my LO got his leg stuck. Haven't had any issues.

  • He's not active at this point, can't put himself to sitting position or pull up. I think mesh bumpers it is.
  • Nope. We still don't want to, but I don't judge others if they do what's best for them. The reason we don't want to use them is because regular bumpers impede air flow, and I have heard stories of breathable bumpers coming detached and being strangulation risks.

We also have had mesh ones for a few months. One thing to think about is how "active" your LO is at this point. Once they can use the bumpers to "climb on" it's usually recommended to get rid of them.

We had a mesh bumper but took it off for this reason. N kept pulling at it with her hands and feet. She hated not seeing out.
  • We got mesh ones because she kept getting limbs stuck in the crib slats and would wake up screaming.
  • Yes. I don't have mesh because I think at this point babies are able to move and turn their heads to a proper breathing position. But yes bumpers at this point are fine IMO.

We've had mesh breathable bumpers in since we started putting him in the crib.

  • My lo gets his legs into the slats, but so far has been able to easily pull them out. I hadn't even thought of it being a problem, now I'm worried!

  • I just purchased mind today. I found mesh ones at Target, and they were on clearance. Score!
  • I wish I lived near a Target. I'd get some today! Mine is 45 minutes away.
  • I think it's fine. I use mesh ones just because I'm paranoid, but honestly the regular ones are probably fine at this age.

I couldn't survive living that far from a Target. Also, I've got the bumpers in there too. He was constantly waking up with an arm or leg stuck not to mention the constant loss of the binky.
