Seriously?!?

Poor K has had two UTIs since the end of November. We finally just finished her second course of antibiotics. Now A has been running a fever so I took her in today. She has an ear infection and is on antibiotics. I'm glad they aren't passing germs back and forth but I have reached my limit for sick babies.

That sux! Hope they feel better!! This maybe a super dumb comment but I didn't realize babies could get UTI's. I got them every other week in college but I know how I got those. How does that happen with a baby and how do you know when she has it?

I've heard it's actually fairly common in babies. Might be related to diapers and limited air flow. Also, some people are just very prone to them. My mom gets at least one a month, and it's not related to her activity, if you know what I mean.

@LeoLauren - We were actually given the option of bringing her in for an u/s to check if there was something structural that is causing it. They look for a sort of reflux in her urinary tract. If she has it and it is severe enough she could be put on antibiotics all the time and in some very bad cases even surgery. We decided to watch her closely and will probably go for the testing if she has another.

With K we knew what was going on because she had very foul smelling pee and a fever. The second time we recognized the smell before the fever even started. I know in some babies they test for a UTI when the baby has an unexplained fever. They have to catheterize the baby to get a urine sample to test.

Poor babies, and poor mama taking care of and worrying about the sick babies! Hoping everyone gets healthy quickly. Thanks for educating me on UTI with baby, I had no idea.

Oh god, that's terrible!!! I really hope it doesn't come to surgery. That's the last thing you probably need to deal with. Here's to two healthy babies ASAP and some downtime for mama!
