I spoke with my doctor about this a month ago. She recommends that everyone visiting with LO have the flu shot and TDAP booster. We spoke with our parents about this, especially because they will be around so much more/longer and help care for our older DS. My FIL and step-MIL are refusing to get the shot. FIL because "a lady at his work was paralyzed after the shot...." and step-MIL "I always get sick after them...."
I have an appointment today and will speak with my doctor about her thoughts on this. I know we can't MAKE them get their shots and they are entitled to do what they want with their bodies/health. That said though, we CAN say "no visitors w/o the flu shot."
What is your take on this after speaking with your doctor? How do you handle visitors, especially during flu/cold season?
Thanks ladies!
(ps. I did use the search function and read many posts, none answered the questions I have above though)
Re: Visitors (esp. grandparents) and flu shot... what is your stance?
@Finnaroo
Thank you for your comment. DH and I will have a discussion tonight after speaking with my doctor again. I wish his family wouldn't put us in this situation to NEED to have this discussion. We had the same expectations when DS1 was born.
Thanks again!
.
Thank you and I realize this. I also don't expect EVERYONE coming into contact with baby to have these vaccinations. I am talking about grandparents that want to come stay for a week at a time. Which is what my doctor recommended.
Again, thank you.

Let's see... exposure to a small amount of a dead virus in a form considered safe for infants and pregnant women under the supervision of a doctor, or infection under uncontrolled conditions by a full strength live virus known to cause fatalities.
I know which one I prefer!
