I think LO might be a bit constipated. Any ideas to help her out?

LO hasn't pooped since Wednesday night, so it's been almost two days now, and she seems to be in a bit of pain. She's a combo of BF and FF, since I'm sure that's makes a difference as far as recommendations go. If this continues, I'll mention it at our weight check with the pedi on Monday morning. But in the meantime, any help would be appreciated.

  • Bicycle movements with legs. A rectal thermometer sometimes will get things moving. It sucks for them to be backed up.

  • What they eat idea make a difference. A lot of BF babies can go days and days with out pooping and are totally fine with it. That being said my Little Man poops almost every diaper and he's EBF.
As for constipation, you can take a cue-tip and get it wet and rub it around his anus on the outside (don't insert it), or run a baby wipe with a little pressure on his anus that might help. If your babies poop has been more solid lately then you might want to mention that to you DR at the appointment because they might need a little more help then just a little stimulation. Good luck.
  • My pediatrician suggested a teaspoon of Karo syrup in the bottle when my little guy gets constipated. It usually works pretty well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it recommended not use Karo syrup? Like I said I could be way off here, I honestly have no idea where I heard this.

I also found articles that say it can contain botulism. That could be out dated info if they've reformulated, tho. So it's just a thought.
  • My doctor also recommended karo syrup but the clear karo syrup and it worked awesome. I put 1/4 teaspoon in 2 oz of water. She drank 1oz and voila... Poop!
  • You can use a suppository, but don't insert it all the way. Just hold it in about half way so that you still have a grip on it.
