Pregnant after 35

Pregnancy counseling (wanted pregnancy)

I am trying to find options for counseling.  My family and friends are a great support system for the most part where baby is concerned.  Hubby and I have hit a bit of a rough patch and I can not talk to family or friends about it.  My friends have strong feelings about how a husband should behave and if I talk to them, I don't think they will give forgiveness once we work through issues.  I am having some trust issues (not hormone related or infidelity related). And he is also having some issues with me (again not hormone or infidelity).  I remember seeing a post once (not sure if on The Bump or other pregnancy website) about online or phone in free counseling.  I didn't think I would need it so I did not take down the info and I can't find it again. All the free or low cost counseling I find seems to be for unwanted pregnancy.    I can't afford to go to counseling.   This pregnancy is a higher risk pregnancy and my work hours have been cut in half.  DH's job is dependant on the weather so due to the bad weather we have been having he has not gotten many hours of work in.  I need someone objective to talk to.  Does anyone know of the info I am referring to or any otions I can pursue?  Thanks in advance.

  • I'm sorry I have not noticed the info you are referring to -- wish I could help. Too bad you can't talk to family or friends about these issues, but it is good you are trying to find support. Hope this rough patch is a short one and you end up in a better place very soon!

You or your DH may have an EAP (employee assistance program) available to you. You can call them and they will refer you to a therapist. You can get a few sessions for free or at a very low cost. Check with your HRs.

  • Also check out local organizations or even hospitals that have women's health programs of any sort -- even if they don't offer counseling, they'll be able to point you in the direction of someone who does.

Good luck. Sounds like a stressful time. Understandable that you would want an objective ear to talk to.

  • I'm not familiar with the program you saw, but another option would be to ask your doctor about what's available in your area. I know my OB keeps that information available. A free program might be tough, but I know there are several sliding scale options in my area. They are more marriage and family than pregnancy specific, but it sounds like that's really what you need - an objective listener to help you work through major life changes and stressors.
  • Hi there.  My OB referred me to a prenatal therapist for counseling.  It isn't free but it is at a sliding scale/reduced rate.  My pregnancy is definitely wanted but I have struggled with issues (emotional and otherwise) in regards to it and this has been the best solution for me.  Again, the info was given to me through my OB.  All the best!
