Does anyone have a three-story house? If so, do you hate it or is it ok? We are looking at one that has 3 stories and I am wondering if all the stairs will be too exhausting to deal with or not a big deal.
We are in a two story right now and it only sucks when I am doing laundry. Washer/dryer is on the first floor and all of the bedrooms are on the second. However, if it had a loft space upstairs and was a bit bigger I wouldn't mind the stairs so much.
We have a three story house. All of the bedrooms are on the second floor and the third floor is a bonus/rec room with an extra entertainment area. We don't use the third floor that often, but really like having it for guests. Our first floor has really high ceilings so the stairs to the second floor do leave me out of breath some days being pregnant now ha!
We are house hunting right now, and just looked at a three story house too. I wouldn't mind getting one, since we are still young and active. The resale value of the house is definitely a disadvantage though.
I live in a four-story house. (No, not a mansion ... just very tall and narrow. It's a downtown lot.)
I don't hate it, but it does require some adjusting in how you use it. I spend the bulk of my time in the 3rd and 4th floors (our kitchen/dining room, and bedrooms/bathroom). Venture down to the living room at night just to watch TV. (The first floor is mostly just the foyer, storage and garage, so neither of us uses it much.)
As for a house this tall and a LO, my plan is to pray for a lot of baby gates from my shower and have the crib on the 4th floor, and a pack-n-play on the 3rd as well as a stash of diapers on each floor.
I think it's doable -- we have no plans at all to move.
I live in a three story and I love it. Second floor is bedrooms a bathroom and laundry room and entire third floor is our master bedroom and bathroom. There are two staircases - one in the front and one in the back that goes down to the kitchen so I feel like its easy to get around and our room is never very far away. Our room has a little alcove off of it we will put baby when she is little but will have her own room downstairs.
We used to live in a ranch, and now we live in a 2 story house with a full basement -- I prefer it much more. In a ranch, I felt like we were always tip toeing around when LO was sleeping, now we feel like we can do whatever when he's sleeping.
So in a nutshell, I think 3 stories is better than 1!
We have a 1.5 story on a full basement. 2 bedrooms upstairs, master on the main, and 2 bedrooms in the basement. Since I am a FTM, we NEVER use the upstairs unless we have guests. The rooms are closed off and the vents are closed too so we don't heat them. I love our house but it's just too big for only two of us (and I hate cleaning it). Everyone says we will like it more once the kids come along. I have no problems overall with it having three levels, my qualm is the overall size.
Thanks, ladies. We are considering buying one and the biggest issue for me is that the laundry room is in the basement and bedrooms are all up top. I am trying to figure out a space to move the washer/dryer up a floor. We had a two-story before and it didn't bother me, but 3 seems daunting. It is a huge house for our price range and in an ideal neighborhood that we otherwise can't afford, so I am trying to weigh whether the inconvenience of 3 stories is worth it.

We had this situation when we were kids and my mom used to just bring the laundry up to the first floor, fold it back into the basket, then leave it by the stairs for the next time she needed to go upstairs. When we got older, bringing up the laundry was one of our chores. So, not the best, but you can make it work.
I grew up in a 4 story house and we currently live in a 2 story with an entrance flight (we're on a hill). I've honestly never thought about it. I've also lived in four walk up apartments, which were much more of a hassle. I think it's something you get used to if the house is right for you. My mother had a similar laundry system to the one kibean mentioned, and that's what I do now too.
