June 2014 Moms

Okay, I need some calms.

I haven't felt the baby move at all in a couple of days. I know, I know, it's super early, but I had been feeling her at least once a day or so for a week and a half. I got the flu shot on Tuesday (just coincidence, I assume?), and Wednesday was the last time I felt anything.

I'm trying to remind myself she's just moved to a different position. But I'm worried.

I tried drinking ice water to see if would cause anything (in the past, cold stuff did) -- nothing.

Re: Okay, I need some calms.

  • She's still pretty small so something like a change in position can greatly affect what you feel. I feel my baby a way more than my baby b, so I get it. It freaks me out and I worry about b but I keep telling myself she's fine.

  • I'm sure everything is ok! Try laying on your left side or taking a warm bath to see if that gets her moving.
  • Calm girl! I know it's hard to not think about it but the flu shot won't harm babe. She's probably just found a comfy corner and is teasing you ;) Dang babes causing us so much anxiety before they are even here!
Ps I am sure your doc would let you come in to hear the heartbeat Monday morning if you are still concerned.
  • I've tried laying down, eating something sweet, drinking cold things. Poking at my stomach, changing my temperature, etc.

I've also tried not thinking about it. VERY DIFFICULT.

  • I'm sure she is fine and has just changed positions like you said but maybe try drinking an Icee. I had my elective gender ultrasound yesterday and was told to drink an Icee before to get her active. I only drank half of it and she was moving like crazy--kicking, squirming, moving her arms around, and sticking her tongue out at us. So maybe try that if you really want to get her moving but if she changed positions you may not be able to feel it. I can't actually feel her yet but I know she was moving a lot!

This! Try not to worry. I have gone a couple days without feeling anything as well and even when there is tons of movement on the doppler I still don't usually feel much.

Both of my babies have been really stubborn and good hiders.  With C and with this one, I'd feel wicked movement for a few days, then nothing for a few.  They both also like(d) to hang out realllllly low, so it was hard to find them with the doppler until much later in pregnancy.  I got used to this, and it actually became fun to watch the doc's faces panic a bit when they couldn't find the hb right away and were worried that I would flip out.  I just explained that I had a stubborn baby and to move the doppler lower.  Today is a good movement day, I expect to feel very little tomorrow.  I hope your LO starts kicking you tomorrow!

ETA: I also have a coworker who NEVER felt either of her children move, ever, while pregnant.  She has two healthy pre-teens now.  I know it's hard when they move and then stop, but it's not unheard of to just not feel a lot of it.

  • Don't worry at all! It's really a stroke of luck to feel anything this early anyways! :) I'm sure LO in perfect.

  • I'm sure baby is fine! I was worried a few days ago because the same thing happened to me, later on I felt movement when reclined and watching t.v. Try a tall Starbucks espresso drink, that almost always works for me (half decaf works, it's the only kind I drink now lol).
  • I'm sure everything is fine! Its normal for babies movements to be sporadic right now. I only started feeling my baby this week and she is very random! Yesterday I barely felt her at all. I can't wait for her to get stronger and for me to feel her more often.

  • I am so glad you posted this. Early movement can really mess with your mind because it is so inconsistent. I have some days where I don't feel lo at all and I start to panic.

  • @wtfisup any update? Have you felt anything lately? I know for me when my flutters started it was sporadic. I felt the first kick right before New Years. I told my mom and she said "now if you don't feel her for 24 hours you need to get yo your doc or er asap". Thanks for making me even more neurotic mother!!! My lo makes an appearance when she damn well feels like it (generally after a sugar rush lol).

  • I'm almost 20 weeks and all through week 19 only felt baby once. Don't worry and flu shot can't do anything to the baby I promise!!!! I was annoyed too I couldn't feel him and finly busted out my Doppler! I heard his HB and he pushed back on it as to say "mommy I'm fine leave me alone I'm trying to sleep" lol. I've heard they do not like the ultrasound so I only use it when I really feel the need. We are all so funny and so worried already. I'm glad I'm not the only one!!
  • Okay, maybe, MAYBE I feel her in there. Not sure. I am hunched over on the couch (thanks to waking up sick, hoorah!) and feel something like a cell phone on vibrate right about where my uterus is. It's similar to what I felt when I first felt her, but different. If this is her, I think she's maybe turned around facing my back?

    Fingers crossed.

I bet it was her. Whenever I feel baby, I then start wondering if I am imagining it. It is better when they get bigger and you know without a doubt that you are feeling them.

Okay, you're all helping. I'm just anxious by nature. Luckily, I do have a midwife appt on Monday morning, so there will be a Doppler check. If this board didn't exist, I'd just have to call my mom who would make me worry 900 times more.
Never call the mothers, they're worse than Dr. Google :)

  • I still don't have consistent movement and all is well!  We can't expect consistent movement until at least 24 weeks!  Hang in there!

  • I asked this on my ticker change and another (more recent) movement thread, but STMs (or moms that have felt movement): What should I be looking out for? Is it something I will feel while I'm doing other things? Do I need to be still/laying down? Do I have to touch my belly to feel it with my hand? Do I have to press on my belly with my hand? LOL Can you tell I'm eager?
The only thing I can tell you is that you'll know as soon as it happens. Wait, I take that back... You'll be like "was that??????" And then a couple weeks later you'll be like "that's amazing!". You'll feel it inside first. I've only felt on the outside once. DH hasn't felt it yet

Went to my appointment today. ME said everything was fine, but HB was much harder to find than in the past and much quieter. Last time was super loud and obvious. It's rate was good, but the low volume and difficulty finding it did worry me. We have our AS on Weds.

was it usual pace? My last appt, the OB got the HB for maybe5 seconds and then she kicked the Doppler and scooted away. OB was shocked at how wiggly she was. Maybe your LO is just hiding from your OB too?

She didn't tell me the rate. Just said, "Sounds good."

  • I have the same with mine. I'll feel what I know is movement for a few days then nothing for a day or two, I think everything is probably just fine in there. I just figure it's LO moving around and turning, plenty of room for now lol.
