Breastfeeding

breastfeeding and poop

Lo is 5 weeks 4 days. His poops are constantly going back and forth between yellow and seedy to really green frothy mucousy painfully gassy poop. I have no milk or soy in my diet since my oldest has mspi. I've been working on getting my mom supply under control and I feel it's much better than what it was 2 weeks ago but lo still seems to get the nasty green poop. I just want to give up bf'ing and put him on nutramigen but dh is against it. I know breast milk is best but I am so tired and I can't figure out what else to do anymore to make it work. The only thing I can come up with is maybe Thera something still in my diet that is bothering him. I eat only chicken or Turkey for meat. I eat butternut squash, carrots, or potatoes for vegetables and I eat dairy/soy free bread. I avoid gassy veg even tho my LC said that its an OWT. I have been eating dairy/soy free ice cream and chocolate that's dairy/soy/nut free. Maybe that's what's getting him sick? Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Re: breastfeeding and poop

  • I would try eliminating nuts, and maybe eggs. Don't give up yet, mama!

  • I don't eat nuts and I haven't eaten anything with eggs in several weeks.
  • What is your supply like? Could you have a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance?

  • I think possibly oversupply and try eliminating gluten. Are you familiar with block feeding? Can you try that?

  • I block fed last week for 5 days. Cut my supply in half. I started block feeding again to reduce my milk some more. Every time I stop block feeding my supply seems fine but then it starts increasing again. Maybe it's hormonal imbalance idk?
  • Dont give up.so easy! We aa women are meant to endure alot of pain and stress, getting through is what makes us stronger and more patient! I say this from experience.. I had mastitis for 3 months straight. DS was only one month when I got it but I fought through the pain and tears for his sake! You can do it! Be strong!
  • I had/have major OS and OALD, which was making LO very uncomfortable too. We did a week of block feeding with two feeds in a row per side, and now I do mostly alternating sides. I'll put him back on the same side for another feed if he didn't really drain that breast. My supply seems to be more under control and his poops are kind of alternating now too (from "good" yellow, seedy poops to the bad green, mucousy ones). My LC said it could take a few weeks for LO's intestines to heal up, which may be causing it. Poor little guy :( it's been tough, especially when he and I were both miserable, so I feel your pain. Hang in there!
