Naked?

I know, it sounds like a sexy topic but not so much. When do you think kids should stop seeing their parents naked? Bath time has always been my husbands thing and he and DD just take an actual bath together- we never even used our baby bath tub. When do you think that type of thing needs to stop?

Re: Naked?

  • I was just reading something about this not that long ago. It's not until the age of 4 that parents of the opposite sex should cover up around their LO. For parents of the same sex it's not as big of a deal. I'd say go with what your comfortable with but I don't think your DH needs to stop any time soon! It's sweet they take a bath together!

  • Not sure, we've never taken a bath w DS. I probably (if it was something I did) would've stopped after "infancy" or shortly thereafter. Definitely if it was DH bathing with DD, maybe bc there's such a stigma with that kind of thing. I dont know. I think it's a very different thing if you as the mother are doing something like this but the dad?...... I ehhhh. Seems weird to me. Hope I don't offend anyone with my opinion.

    Anniversary

  • We take DS in the shower with us all the time. It probably won't stop until later. We only have a shower stall and no tub, so he will at least be taking a shower with DH until he can bathe himself.
  • We have never used our baby bath tub. In the beginning DD always took a bath with me or sometimes she gets in the shower with DH and I. I'm not sure when that should stop.....hadn't really thought about it yet! I don't think it'll be an issues for a while.
  • I would cross that bridge when you get to it. Most people stop when kids start asking questions about different body parts, which usually occurs around age 4, from what I read.

  • DS and I take a shower together once a week. I am home alone with him every night, even most weekends, and I work full time. Some days it's just the most efficient thing to do lol.  I haven't really given it much thought...but it won't be for some time that I would think about getting too modest. Like @drea926 said, probably around four or five. I think it's important to have privacy, but I also don't want DS to think being naked is some huge deal and if my boob pops out we all need to keep our eyes down for a week lol. Or that his own naked body is something to be awkward about.

By the way, we both bathe/shower more than once a week haha. It's just that we do it together once.

  • I think you have a while.  This makes me laugh because we have see through shower door and one night while DH was showering DD crawled into the bathroom and crawled over to the shower door, pulled up and was pounding on it.  DH was yelling to me (I was in the bedroom) and I went in and DH was desperately trying to cover up while DD continued to pound on the door and yell to DH.  I was laughing so hard I couldn't even get her. I tried to tell him it was fine and DD was not going to be scarred by the event but he wouldn't hear it until I removed her from the bathroom :p

  • We are much more sensored where seeing dh is concerned. I think maybe it's because dd is a girl and I'm OK with her seeing hour her body will develop. But dh has only ever showered with DS, even when C was little. But then again, he didn't become part of her life until she was 4.

I would say when they start to notice a difference between a boy and a girl. For c that was between 18 and 24 months, I don't remember exactly.

  • Thanks ladies! I figured we had awhile but I didn't know what sign to go off of telling me it was time to hubby cover up.
  • I have always showered with ds. When dd was born I told dh he needed to take over. He or I would do it until last week. I told dh now that he is 4 he really needs to stop seeing me naked! He runs in to check on "his girls" while dd and I are in there every night. So still seeing me naked. Glass door to shower. French doors with no lock into bathroom. He doesn't ever care about the parts. He knows we are different. Let me say dd and ds under foot while I am trying to wash is no easy task!

  • My older boy is three and I think now is good. He's started the questions, which is fine but he def gets all explanations confused! It's funny and cute and I think I need to be more modest at home :)

  • I don't remember how old I was when I stopped taking baths with my dad. I think it ended the day that I tried to take off the facecloth he kept over his twig and berries. So probably when they start getting too curious...?
