s\o dropping naps

It takes DS approx 1.5 hrs to get to sleep every night.  First we go through our routine, then the excuses.   I have rocked him, retucked him, and sang to him. Eventually I let him CIO for about 10 mins until he falls asleep, but I can't help but wonder what has changed in my boy who was previously a great sleeper.  Should I try to drop the nap?

Re: s\o dropping naps

  • You could try it. Does he usually seem tired at nap time? My DS has started fighting nap time; he just isn't tired. He will usually still take a catnap in the afternoon (30-45 min). Then we put him down at his usual time without issue.

When DD gave up her nap she didn't catnap, but was really tired come bedtime so we pushed her bedtime earlier.

  • We went through some serious bedtime battles with DD1 at that age. It was something she outgrew.

  • We keep getting those sleep battles but I haven't noticed a connection with naps. And he has started regularly dropping them.

We'll have a month or two of falling asleep in 30 minutes and then we'll get a couple weeks of it taking 2 hours. Not fun.

  • He's for sure testing boundaries.  Last night went on for so long between the excuses and the crying that I got desperate and laid down with him, which I only do when he's sick, but gets him to sleep every time.  It didn't work.  He wasn't tired for some reason.  Finally, I went to bed at 9:30 and told him he has to do the same.  He fussed a bit but finally went to sleep.  2 effing hours of frustration and it ate up my night.  Not pretty, but I hope he outgrows this.

  • I would not drop the nap. DD has gone through phases where it's hard to put her down, but she seems to come out of those (and is still napping at almost 5y old).
