Summer Vacations

We are planning an extended family summer vacation to Yellowstone for late July. There will be 8 adults, 5 kids ages 4 - 12 and our twins. It is a 5 hour car ride there. We will drive our own car then share an RV with my parents for 4 nights. The RV is a big, side pull out type with plenty of room for a PacknPlay and baby gear. Am I crazy? Or is this the kind of vacation we can enjoy with infants? Anyone else planning o take summer vacations?

We are hoping to join my in-laws for their Myrtle Beach vacation in August. it is a 6 hour drive. If being away isn't working out we can leave before the week is up. They got the condo for free - so no pressure to stay the whole time. Hoping we can get a little bit of time at the beach, take some pics and enjoy some family time. Hubby is a little nervous to take baby on a trip from home so soon.

Sounds awesome!! We will be going on a cabin trip about 3 hours away for a weekend in July. We will have our twins, a friend will have a 1 yr old, and other friends are bringing two six year olds

Sounds great. We flew 7 hours, drove 5 and stayed in various hotels when DS was 11 weeks. Way easier to travel with them at that age!

I took DD to my grandparents summer house at 3w, we stayed there with 7 adults and baby for a week. It was great, but we did have the advantage of a whole house and our own bedroom. Seeing as baby will be older (aka nursing will be better established if that's the plan, and you'll be much better recovered) it should be great!

We went to Yellowstone a few summers ago, and stayed in June. We decided to camp in tents, and let me tell you, next to our tent was a pile of snow just as big as the tent... It was freezing!!! That being said, with an RV, you'll be much more comfortable, and you'll have other people to help defray some baby carrying. It's a lot of walking, beautiful scenery, and you'll have a lot of baby gear to take with you. But again, the scenery is gorgeous; would you take a stroller or wear baby? The steam coming off of most of the trails has some pretty noxious fumes, so you might check in on if that's safe for baby (it's mostly sulfur, so it stinks lol). Anyway, it's an enormous park, so there's a lot of walking, driving around, and enjoying. We would leave the campsite early in the morning and not come back til evening. You might want to really map out what you plan to see (so that you do actually leave the campsite) and what you would need while you're out each day. We also hopped over to Jackson Hole one day to see the town and the Grand Tetons.

I'm thinking the only vacation we might take with new baby this summer will be to the beach

not a lot of going anywhere, just between condo and beach

Go!!!! Yellowstone is amazing. Yellowstone is one of those places that you can take your time and relax or, like we did, hike until your ready to fall over. Definitely go and take the more relaxing route. An RV would be so much fun.

We are doing a family get together on Dh's side in Maine this August.Last year it was in Michigan. It's fun going see everyone and SIL is going to have a new baby too, but it's just such a long drive with six kids, nine hrs not counting stops. I wish we could find something closer, but Dh's family is from where we live so no one wants to visit here in upstate N.Y. I guess we are destined to drive a ton if we want to see everyone but it's worth it to get the kids together. We are looking into getting a nissan nv passenger van next year, so hopefully the following family get together will be a more comfortable trip for us all.

We're going to be driving 12 hours (wah!) north to our best friend's wedding. After that, I'm hoping to go over to our family cabin for a few days before making the trek back down south.

The last time we went camping with an infant, my youngest was 5 months and it was pure hell. Every other year after that was easy and fun, but we aren't planning any trips this summer.

DH and I are actually both in a wedding at the end of May. We will be driving both kids 8 hours to my parents and another 6 to the wedding. I am worried about leaving a baby that long over a whole weekend, but it is a destination wedding, and we are both in the wedding, so we really don't have anyone to watch her there.
