Mother of all leg cramps anyone ?

Worked a night shift last night and due to the fact that there was a scheduling error I stayed up for 26 hours b/ f going to bed. Thought I was not working nights until next week. Ugh. Survived the night shift but I woke up from a sound sleep to an excruciatingly painful leg cramp. Hubby had to physically move my leg to loosen it. I eat lots of mag . Calcium and potassium rich foods. Even had a banana before bed. Wow, was not prepared for that. Any one else having leg cramps?

  • I'm having extreme hip cramps during the night even with a pregnancy pillow between my legs. I keep switching sides hoping that will help, but it gets bad. No advice, but I feel your pain!

  • I immediately lay on my back, straighten my leg, and flex my toes toward my head. This seems to stop them quite quickly for me.

  • I fell asleep on the couch New Years eve by like 10:30, and H came to wake me up with a kiss at midnight. He was sort of laying over top of me, and when I woke up I tried to change positions. Something about that caused the worst leg cramp I think I've had of my entire life, so much that I was about to cry. Even after massaging it out and going back to sleep, it still hurt for the next two days while I was at work :( I can't do any sort of stretches or even attempt to move the muscle while having a cramp or it just absolutely sears in pain, so massaging the area until it loosens up is about the only thing that works for me.

  • I just had one the other night. I swear my calf hurt for two days afterward. I hate bananas but I went right out and bought some.

I'll have to research other foods that can help because that was awful.

  • I am having crazy cramps in my thighs. Literally I wake from sleep and feel I am being stabbed in the thighs. I take Calc, Mag, Potassium supplement and have been trying to drink more water but nothing really seems to help...I am out of ideas. But I totally feel your pain.
  • Did you drink enough water during your long shift? You might have been dehydrated.

  • I've had them a few times so bad that they wake me up. And they hurt for a few days afterward. I feel like I am getting enough potassium since I've been craving bananas, so maybe it's just something I'll have to deal with throughout pregnancy.
