Roseola

Hi ladies,
LO had a cold about a week ago and had a fever for two days during it. I first noticed the rash on Saturday and he was seen by a doctor on Sunday. She said it was a viral rash (blanched when pressed) and it is not itching him or bothering him. She said it should go away within 3-5 days and while it has faded a little, it's still there on his belly, neck and face :( we are on day 8 of this rash and most websites say it goes away within 1-2 days. Anyone has experience with this?

Re: Roseola

  • DD1 got Roseola when she was 4 in preschool. She had an almost 105 fever for 5 days with the rash. There was nothing I could do, but stagger motrin and tylenol and keep her hydrated. It sucked, and it was terrifying because of her fever. But, there isn't much you can do but let it run it's course. Hang in there momma

  • Thanks tiffletons.... His fever only got up to 101.5 but we were constantly giving him tylenol. He also had diarrhea and vomited a couple of times. How long did her rash last? He is acting totally fine, I'm just worried because the rash hasn't gone away yet!!
  • Ds1 had it this summer. His temp was over 104. We alternated Motrin and Tylenol for nearly 2 days and that barely touched his fever. After his fever broke he developed the rash on his belly. I think with roseola you would have seen a higher temperature. Sometimes kids just get rashes with viruses.

  • Hers was like @ilovemarfa. She had the fever first. It first started at 105, and the lowest I got it over the 5 days was 103. I basically didn't sleep checking on her constantly. It was once the fever broke that we noticed the rash also on her belly. And, I second the fever seeming a bit low to be roseola.
  • DD has had roseola twice. Both times really high fevers for 4ish days followed by fever breaking and the notorious rash. The first time she got swollen eyelids too. Weird. The rash lasted just shy of a week IIRC. I agree it doesn't sound like roseola to me either.

  • The urgent care doctor actually told us "viral rash" and the nurse I spoke with said perhaps Roseola... I meant to clear that up! How long should a viral rash last?
