how to tell a friend we're pregnant

My bestie have been having trouble getting pregnant for almost a year now.  She currently doesn't live in the same state as me.  The family and very close friends knows we are pregnant and we were going to wait to announce it until after the first trimester.  I feel like I should tell her sooner rather then telling her later.  I won't be able to see her face to face. Text or phone call doesn't seem right either.  I'm worried about how she will take the news.  We've only tried for 1 month.

    Thank you :) it makes sense to text her and let her process it rather than tell her in person.

    No we weren't actively trying (timing, taking temperature, tracking, etc). 
    I've been off the pills for one month and we were just going to let nature happen.  I had read that women in their 30's (before 35) only had 15% chance of getting pregnant per cycle so I really wasn't expecting to get pregnant. But hey! =)
