Short girl hair styles?

Anyone have any styles / photos / sites for little girl hair cuts?  I posted a while back about the hair pulling / eating and it's gotten really worse this week and I think we've hit the point where we just need to cut her hair :-(  I'm really sad about it but at least she'll be eating less hair and  maybe it will discourage her.  So I'm looking for ideas for short (like really short) hair cuts that are still cute.  I guess we could try an inbetween cut before going really short too.  Ok, I kinda can't believe this is happening still, sigh.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

Re: Short girl hair styles?

  • What about a cute little pixie cut? I love them but do not have the courage to do it on my hair. Here are 2 little girls with this cut that is ADORABLE and M could totally pull it off! https://www.flickr.com/photos/29562711@N06/4110269216/

Or a tapered bob shorter in the front and gradually longer in the back. *Hugs* I know this sucks and I'm sorry you guys are dealing with it!

  • The "Twiggy" style that michelleaxo's DD has is really cute.  I also like the blunt bob that Suri Cruise had for a while.

    ETA: like this one

  • I think her hair will look super cute short!

T had short hair for a long long time.  This is probably the shortest it ever was:

I this would look cute on M too, a bit longer and a better straight cut (which would be easier to grow back out):

This year is the first year we've let her grow out her hair and honestly, I don't like it.  We're in that weird inbetween phase and I miss her super short and easy to care for cuts.

The absolute BEST place we found to do sassy shorter cuts is B ir ds Barbershop. They always did a really great job where the discount / walkin cheapo and kid geared places never got it right.  I'd highly recommend them.

  • Did you get any insight into why you DD is eating her hair (that was her, right?)? I'm sorry!

Well, when DD2 gave herself a mullet when she was 3, we took her to the barber (Birds) and they gave a super cute pixie cut that grew out into an adorable shag that adult women were coveting. Here it is just a few days after her cut (note DH put her outfit together that day, which is why I took a picture!):

  • Two votes for Birds! And yes, they're relatively inexpensive.
  • Thanks everyone!  I love the ideas and pics!  I feel a lot better about cutting it!  And thanks for the B irds Rec, that sounds perfect!

Carlinlp - you're flickr links didn't work for me, it says its private :-(  I'd love to see the pics if there's another way?

Bluestreet - Yes that's her.  I've gotten a lot of theories but no actual answers.  I'm guessing its probably a combination of several things/triggers.  There are some sensory things we're working on in OT, there are some nutritional things we're working on too, then there more special time and one-on-one time we're doing too.  It's called Trich otillo mania (hair pulling) and Tricho phagia (hair eating).  Everything I've read on the first trich, says they don't know why some kids do it and some don't.  The good news is that most kids who start it this young grow out of it (first Trich).  There's less info on the eating part and that's the one that can cause medical problems (blockages internally).  Her pedi didn't see any need for any imaging to see if there are blockages last time we went, so hopefully that's still the case.

    Thanks again everyone!
  • First of all, (((hugs))).  I really think it's going to be sooooo cute short, though.

Have you seen Olivia's hair at school? It's much thicker than Megan's, but it's cut up to her ears and it's cute.  One of my work friends has a 4 year old with hair like Megan's and it's cut super short and she is cute and girly :) I'll send you a link to some pics of her.

  • A's hair has always been fairly short- mainly because she hates getting it brushed and it keeps some of the fights to a minimum.  This is my fave cut of hers of all times. If you did something like a short bob they could cut it shorter in the front i bet.
