So embarrassing...asking anyway

I've noticed that my underwear are no longer covering my crotch. I wear thongs, especially when I run because I am wearing tight pants, and I'm getting a lot of chafing on my labia because the underwear only go halfway over. What the heck?? Is this normal?
What do I do?!

Re: So embarrassing...asking anyway

  • Buy larger underwear? Go commando?
  • Loading the player...
  • How are maternity underwear different?
  • They make maternity underwear including thongs!! They fit better and are cute :-) I got mine from motherhood maternity online.
  • Increased vascularization to the area when pregnant causes swelling. Normal. Don't recommend thongs at all. They are a vector for bacteria to travel from rectum to vaginal causing UTIs.
Thank you! I was worried I was gaining excess weight there.
  • I was just going to suggest Motherhood Matenity as well.

And sort of off topic but I have no idea how anyone can run in a thong. Ouch.

  • I used to hate thongs, but then I started wearing spandex running and realized that my butt wasn't looking so cute with big underwear lines. I can only wear hanky panky or Gap thongs, they are super comfortable and now I prefer them to regular underwear. No wedgies, no adjusting, they are great. I'm reconsidering that now though because these things are driving me crazy.
  • I've been a thongs only girl since college (so 13 years or so).  I switched to them because I have a wide and stick out butt.  I have never found bikinis that provide the correct coverage and I always end up with wedgies.  I tried boy shorts and others but everything would just creep.  Thongs are the only way to go for me and I wear the ones that are lacy and one size fits all.  I am not looking forward to needing to switch things up!

I have those spandex/compression capris (for cooler weather) and yes the panty line is terrible. That and because of the fit, everything bunches up inside of them. I have one plain Jane type and the rest all have the cotton crotch sewn in so you don't have to wear anything else. The Under Armour thongd are great too. Just pricy.

  • My underwear stopped covering all of my goods a few weeks ago. I finally caved and bought granny panties, and I don't care because they are comfortable!
  • I wear the grannies for my runs.  The hanes kind that my grandma literally wears.  I wore them alot before pregnancy too, because I'm not ashamed to be unsexy.  I wear shirts that cover my bum for the most part, to cover the panty line, and also the ever expanding @ss! :)
  • VS cotton bikinis a size up for me! They are amazing and have invisible lines. 5 for $25 :)

  • Ha.  I have been wondering what to do about underwear.  I recently noticed mine don't fit as comfortably as they used to and bought a few pairs in a size up.  I didn't know maternity underwear were a thing.

It seems obvious that this would happen but I still felt really weird and self-conscious about it.

I stopped wearing thongs 5 years ago, when I realized they were super uncomfortable to sleep in, had to be "bare" for them to look right, and realized they didn't look as sexy as I thought. Lol. Also, yoga in a thong is just miserable! I am all about a good boy short or hipster panty now. And my husband thinks they are way hotter than thongs, so that's a plus!  Athough I will say, that Hanky Panky thongs are super comfortable and I do make exception for those, when the outfit calls for panty line free.

  • I wear thongs because they are comfortable. I hate regular undies. I started wearing thongs in high school bc when I would play volleyball and basket ball I was constantly picking my underwear out of my crack. I have been wearing other panties more often now but I still don't like them. I'm kind of interested in maternity thongs though.

  • I cannot tell you how many times I have seen someone wear a thong, and you can still see the lines of the thong through your clothes.. Idk for me I would much rather see underwear lines then thong lines lol. And plus your pants often go through your butt crack when wearing a thong.. Especially with skirts and dresses. Wearing underwear is not some huge secret. It's a normal thing to wear underwear. I think its funny that a person is ashamed of some underwear lines that no one cares about haha.
  • Granny panties have been purchased! We will see how this goes ;)
  • Omg I love going commando- it's my favorite part of the day. :\">
  • I really like thongs too, though I haven't been wearing them this pregnancy because I was on Prometrium for the first 6 weeks. Now Granny panties are just more comfortable and I look like a house, so who cares about panty lines!! I do plan to go back to thongs exclusively post baby, about 6 weeks post baby!

Same here. My butt got huge so panty lines or not, it's not a pretty sight.
  • Oh thank God. I thought I was the only one that might need new underwear! I miss my thongs. I've only worn regular undies since the bleeding started and I have to wear a panty liner.

  • I use to only wear thongs in high school n college...then during my first pregnancy I switched to bikinis. I wore maternity bikinis from Motherhood with my first two pregnancies, but this time I have just been rocking my Hanes and rolling the waistband once. I am just all sorts of sexy nowadays :) It really used to bother me to see panty lines, but the amount of discharge I have had with this pregnancy (TMI...sorry!) has been out of control and a thong or commando simply would never work! Sure, having 4 butt cheeks isn't the most attractive, but I've been thrilled that the tunic length top is back in style and usually covers my pancake butt anyhow!

Those people are probably wearing a thong that's too small.  I think that's why most people don't like them.  I always go up a size in thongs and they are super comfy.  I run in them and workout in them.

I used to wear VS but they started to get tight around my legs (actually to the point where they were cutting in and hurt) and slip down which was super annoying. I actually bought some from jc penny's- they are maiden form and hiphuggers. They are so so so comfy and they stay up and don't have hard elastic around the legs or stomach so they don't cut in. They are silky with lace around the leg holes and stomach so they still look really attractive and not at all like granny panties, but the fit feels like I'm a granny! They also have a cotton crotch so that helps with discharge/uti stuff. I have never noticed a panty line- I think the lace is thin enough that you really don't get one. Only problem is they are a little pricer than other options, but I got them on sale 3 for 20 bucks and had a coupon on top of that- plus being comfy AND still feeling sexy is worth money IMO. Check them out!

Also- they come in all kinds of cute patterns. :)

Do thongs cover any crotches? They're an inch wide. Who has a teeny one-inch crotch?

You can buy bigger underwear, maternity underwear, or stop wearing thongs. I had to retire my thongs until after LO is born.

    Yup this!

  • Lol....I had to giggle.

I don't wear thongs except for the occasion when they will be removed soon.

When it comes to panty lines....my husband use to watch me walk away from him and try and see my panty line. He said it was a turn on. Didn't get any of it...but whatever works;-)

I applaud the fact that you can even wear them...much less while running;-)
