silver lining??

I know we don't usually think of good things when we think preemies... although I love to think of what a rock star my boy is.  Anyway my friend was just telling me that her 8 month old is now 27 pounds!!!!!!!!!! he's EBF (with a few solids here and there) but OMG! My 19 month old is only about 23 pounds. All I could think was her poor back! DS can walk but still likes to be held and I love that I can do it without being in pain! I tell him all the time that he is getting so huge and heavy but come on, he's a light weight!

Anyway I had to share that with you guys.

ETA- 19 months old?! where has the time gone?

Re: silver lining??

  • When will I make the switch from worrying about her weight to appreciating it? I'm still BFing & supplementing six times a day plus she's eating solids twice a day but I still obsess over her weight. I'm sure I'll appreciate her not breaking my back someday!!!

Maybe I'll put Anna in it during our family get together tomorrow and take a picture to put side by side with one of me!

Honestly I'm not sure haha For me I think it was when I started seeing him hitting milestones and saw other kids in his class that were the same age but not hitting some of them before him and realizing he was just a normal kid.  He also eats such an insane amount that I often wonder how he doesn't weigh 50 pounds! I know when we were at your stage I was still freaking out.  DS refused baby foods and did not eat solids until he was closer to 8 months and we did BLW.  He was EBF and I constantly felt the stress of "am I giving him enough???" One day you will and I want you to come back and tell us!!!

@Bostonkisses2 I have no idea but it didn't really dawn on me until I wrote it because I hadn't thought of it.  It just hit me that he is closer to his second birthday than his first... WHAT?!?!! Looking back at myself a year ago I cannot even imagine where we are at.  Time is an amazing thing! If someone mentioned a silver lining to a preemie to me I would have been like "Eff you! there's nothing good" so I hope no one is offended... I've been there, I totally get it.

@jbranden12 you should take a picture!! and then do it again next year when it actually fits! amazing how different your paths were but I bet in a few years the pictures will look exactly the same!

  • Everyone is always so surprised at how light Adalyn is. :) She is 19 pounds and will be 2 in less than a month! I still worry about her weight (since she is still really low percentile), but nothing like when she was bottle-fed.

  • We just planned our vacation and one place we may go doesn't allow strollers. I said we could take the carrier which goes up until 45-50 pounds or something crazy. I told dh we can carry ds to kindergarten in it!
