Watch your precious babes

Well today marked our first visit to the ED for Nolan. This morning at 530 Nolan woke up so at 6 I took him in changed him, sat him against the wall at the back of the bed. Tuned my head to grab a onsie and he dove head first onto the floor. I was terrified. I took him to the ED because he seemed to be going in and out of a daze. Docs observed him for about 3 hours and sent us home. I can't tell you how terrible I feel/felt!

I don't know if the ED trip was "necessary" but I'm a hypochondriac when it comes to Nolan since the floor i work on at a hospital is filled with kids who hit their heads, or had accidents,or asthma attacks and now have brain damage. I figured I rather be safe than sorry.

Anyway he should be fine. We have to keep a close eye and wake him every 2 hours while asleep (just a light startle.) I feel like such a bad mom!

Anyway thanks for the vent and watch those babies. Don't leave them anywhere high! They move fast.

  • I'm glad he is okay! Don't beat yourself up too much, we are all human and mistakes can happen.

Side note: I may be showing my hair color but what does ED stand for?

  • See my post about the ER above. They certainly fall hard. Glad he is ok!

  • This is why I am kinda glad that I only have one mattress on the ground right now. Might be a pain to get up in the morning, but I know he won't fall from a high place if he ever did get out of sight.

I am glad your baby is alright.

  • So glad he is okay.  We had an ER visit a few weeks ago.  We were at a family Christmas gathering and everyone was in the living room watching Sawyer crawl around on the floor.  Long story short, someone had let my aunt and uncle's dog in, Sawyer saw him and was crawling across to the room toward him(he loves dogs, and our dog is super sweet with him) and before we knew it, the dog lunged at him and bit him in the face.  The dog was probably 5 feet away from the baby when he attacked, and it happened so fast that no one could grab the dog in time.  I'm not sure I have ever been so scared.  He is fine--he'll have a small scar on his nose, but we got by sooo sooo lucky.  Lesson learned.  Watch your babes at all times...AND do not EVER trust a dog around your baby.  Even if it's yours.

  • Ava fell off the couch and hit her head on the coffee table. Cut the top of her eyebrow open and was bleeding everywhere! She didn't end up needing stitches they just glued it back together. It was SO who was watching her but we both felt like the worst parents ever.
  • Good reminder to not leave their sides for a second.  I'm glad he is okay -- I can't imagine how scared you must have been.

  • How scary! I'm so glad that Nolan is ok. I'm sorry for the fall and the trip to the ED but you were not being a hypochondriac in this situation because that situation definitely warranted medical attention. Hope he's (and you) are ok after that scare.

  • You aren't the only one who's LO had a fall ... DD was sitting in the laundry basket while I was doing a load of clothes, and she decided at that moment to try and pull herself up ... and fell headfirst onto the concrete floor. I was horrified: I grabbed her and ran up the stairs to DH. Luckily she was fine -- no bumps, bruises or blood. I thought for sure she was going to have a goose egg or a bloody nose or something. Nothing! I think she actually broke her fall with her hands.

So scary when something like that happens. Glad LO (and you) are okay.

  • Don't feel like a bad mom.  It's a transition getting used to them moving.  These little boogers are fast too. I'm glad he is okay.

  • :( My little guy also took a dive off the bed when my husband had his back turned for a sec to grab a diaper. Aaaaaand I fell down the stairs (like 7 steps) with DS when he was only 3 months old. Scary! Glad your little man is ok. Good thinking on the quick assessment and the ED visit...better safe than sorry!!

  • My LO took a tumble off the bed too. I didn't tell my husband because I felt like a horrible mom. I had her all day so I just watched her.
