Does anyone have experience with low platelets during pregnancy. This is my 2nd baby and I didn't experience any of this with my son. My platelets as of yesterday were 91. Anyone have any info??
My platelets started dropping with my last pregnancy. It was that along with some other labs that diagnosed me with HELLP at the end. I was delivered at 35 weeks.
I have had low platelets almost my whole life. They go back and forth. For me it is hereditary and seems to have no known cause. I had my daughter 8 years ago with no complications, other than extremely long labour since they were hesitant to do a csection due to platelets. Gl!
I've had a ton of heartburn but is relieved easily with anti acid and I haven't had high blood pressure. Also is it true that most babies are small when Moms have HELLP syndrome? My baby is measuring well above average.
I had low platelets and was diagnosed with HELLP. Blood pressure was fine and my son was measuring just fine. They delivered at 34 weeks. It turns out they were wrong and it wasn't HELLP. I was subsequently diagnosed with lupus and it was just lupus activity. I HIGHLY doubt that's what's going on with you though. When they realized it wasnt HELLP they were throwing around the idea of my platelets being low in response to an infection.

My baby measured fine all along and was a good size at birth--6lbs 7oz. But, I also had GD. So that could contribute to size (although I was easily diet controlled).
I had a c section at 35 weeks with no complications for me. LO was in NICU for 9 days bc he was struggling with breathing a little. He was only on room oxygen for a few days. Never intunated or anything like that. Today he is a perfectly healthy and thriving 14 month old.
OB told me I will be very closely watched this time as there is 40-60% chance of reoccurrence.
I had high blood pressure at a doc appointment, so got sent to labor and delivery to be monitored for Pre-E/HELLP. My platelets were dropping and I had other symptoms as well, and was indeed diagnosed with HELLP. They gave me something to hopefully raise my platelet count, but also gave me an epidural way ahead of time just in case they didn't go up (because if they stayed down, they would have to get me general anesthesia instead, due to risk). My platelet count did go up, but they kept the epidural in anyway, and I had a C-section a day and a half later. Our son was born at 33 weeks 6 days, 4 lbs. 3 oz. Stayed in the NICU three weeks to grow and learn to eat, and doing very well now at 9 months old. Good luck to you, hope nothing is wrong!
