Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

IVF with PGD?

Hi Ladies, I'm fairly new to this board but I really appreciate the support I find here. A week ago I had my second D&C after we discovered the baby's heart stopped around 7 weeks. This was my third loss in a row (my husband and I have no children yet). We did all the tests and look "normal" but the last loss was due to trisomy 13. Not sure what happened the first time as I m/c naturally and we are still waiting for the results of the last one. Today I had my follow-up appt. and my doctor mentioned he felt we'd end up having to go the IVF route with PGD. This seems very drastic but if it would give me a better chance for a healthy pregnancy I'm all ears. The cost scares me as well as the possibility it might not even work. Is anyone considering this or had any success? Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: IVF with PGD?

  • We did not do PGD with our IVF/FET cycle but now we're waiting for the genetic testing to see if it is what will be recommended by our RE *if* we decide to cycle again.  I was OOP for all five of my IUIs and then got $7k in coverage this year.  We used it all plus $6k of our own for this IVF/FET cycle...so needless to say if we do another IVF cycle alone that will cost about $12k, if we have to freeze and do another FET (which we had to because of my progesterone levels post egg retrieval but is a must for PGD) that's another thousand minimum.  If we have to add PGD and it's another $3k then I think it's totally not financially feasible.  It's horrible to say the difference is "just" 3-5K above the 12K of if we can or cannot be parents but having spent about $15k already we need to have a end point and I think that just may be it.  Being OOP for a second IVF cycle is a hard struggle.  If you are looking for PGD success stories, I'd ask over on the Success after IF board or PG after IF because you'll find more people there that have done it.

  • Thanks for your input ladies. It's a huge decision. Hard to consider spending so much money when we conceive so easily.. but I just don't think I can go through this again. I guess we will see what the results are from my last D&C. It's hard to see how easy it is for others to have children sometimes. My biggest fear is that it's just not in the cards for me. :-/
  • @katieb77 please keep me posted. I wish you the best of luck. I know these decisions are so hard emotionally and financially.
