Advice Needed re: Job

So, I'm not a huge fan of my job (mostly my boss, she's a terrible person and highly annoying).  I was looking for another job prior to TTC but didn't find anything by my deadline.  I didn't want to put everything on hold waiting for a new job, so I figured I'd stick it out until after the baby after I got my BFP.  I still hate my job, but the pay is pretty good and the benefits are WAY better than DH's.  Also, the hours are flexible and I rarely have to work OT.  However, I'm non-exempt, so I can't get my PHR certification, which is ridiculous at this stage in my career.
Now my SIL sent me this job opening a friend of hers sent her, at a big company in a great downtown location (yummy restaurants!).  The pay will be about $10K more a year if I get it, but I don't have any info on the benefits.  And I wouldn't be eligible for FMLA, so they could fire me for taking leave.  Of course I may not even get an interview or get this job, but being optimistic, I am qualified and capable.
So should I apply? Lose my short term disability (which at my current job is only 2 weeks at 66% pay) and job protection for 3 months maternity leave?  Possibly have worse benefits?  But I may gain a challenging and stimulating work environment working for someone who hopefully is not an ignorant self involved borderline racist? Tell me what to do!

Re: Advice Needed re: Job

  • I don't think it would hurt to apply and see the whole package then decide. If the benefits aren't as good and you don't want to risk it then you'll still have your job.

  • I see no harm in trying, but the no FMLA thing would really scare me.

  • Thanks ladies!  I think I'll take a closer look at the posting tonight and put my hat in the ring.  Worst case, they offer me the job but I have to decline due to benefits or leave issues.

  • It depends on the probability of something similar opening up in the future after-baby. If this is literally a once in a lifetime oppurtunity, go for it. If not, just wait it out. I can't even imagine how stressed I would be having to worry about insurance and FMLA whilst pregnant.
