Preterm Labor

Hi all... Just wanted to see if there are any similar stories out there... I had a (30 week) appt this week... And there were a few things of concern that I wanted to ask you experienced Multiples moms about:

- Baby A is only in the 9th %ile. He's always been the smaller twin but the 9% is worrisome for the Drs. His fluid is great and his blood flow thru the cord is perfect so they aren't freaking out just yet.
- Baby B is in the 50th %ile with great cord blood flow and great fluid too.
- C/S is almost guaranteed at this point because although Baby A is head down, he is the smaller baby and doing a breech extraction on a bigger Baby B is far too risky. They could try a version (am I saying that right?) but there's no guarantee he'll flip and I may end up with a double whammy which I don't want! Also although I am 31 weeks tomorrow, the chances of Baby B rotating to head down are slim. There is just no room in there for much of anything - They said I am literally all baby.
- My cervix :) (tmi). My cervix is shortening and it's also opening which is not good. They said its 1.3... They did some sort of test while using the trans-V u/s and pushed on my uterus and they watched my cervix open right up on the u/s monitor. This isn't supposed to happen this early and of course makes them worry about preterm labor.
- I'm supposed to be modifying my activity. She talked about bedrest but also said its old fashioned and doesn't always work. They said my cervix just needs to calm down. Nothing rigorous; i need more rest.
For now they are going to do a FFn test next Tuesday which will tell whether I'm in preterm labor or not. They don't think I'll deliver this week or next but they are being cautious. Two biggest concerns right now are Baby A's size and my cervix.

So, should I be panicking? Thanks ladies.

    I'm 31 weeks and my cervix is measuring 1.3cm as well. Dilated to 2.5.  I was given steroid shots as a precaution since I was also having some contractions. I have had 3 positive Ffn tests so far, but the thing you should know is that a positive Ffn means very little. A negative means you most likely wont go into labor in the next two weeks. I have been on bed rest for two weeks (standing/sitting 30min. laying down for 3 hours) and my cervix has been holding steady at 1.3.
    I would definitely consider limiting your vertical activity. As hard as it is with a young one at home, gravity is not your friend at this point.  Good luck and keep those babies cooking for few more months :)

    My cervix was deemed too short at 27 weeks, landing me in the hospital for five days. I was released and put on modified bedrest. I delivered the boys at 33w2d. I wouldn't panic. Just take it easy. You've done a great job making it this far. Keep them in for as long as possible.

    I had a ton of contractions and 15 hospital visits, 4 shots of terb, and was on 40 of procardia every 4 at 30 wks they quit monitoring my cervix bc they said it shortens naturally at 30 wks, my last measurement was 2 at 28wks my doc did not put me on bedrest until 35wks and then only moderate (he also said there's no proof it works and old fashioned but did say that there is an effect of gravity bc of weight so I should move around but if resting it should be on my left side) I ended up being hosp bc of severe swelling and high bp and ultimately it turned into pre-ecand progressed fast. Why am I telling you all of this? Bc my girls were born 36+ wks and were in the 50th percentile when born but were in the 13th percentile prior (based on us). My only advice is take it one day at a time do what you can to rest and don't panic you're doing GREAT at 30wks! Hang in there mama!!!!

    Oh and push for the steroid shots...my doc recommended it due to all the extensive contractions I think at 29wks and it really gave me peace of mind and took the edge off the stress after my initial questions about the potential effects to babies were answered (apparently risks are extremely minimal if at all) if your docs don't bring it up I would ask....some docs wait for a +ffn test especially of you are seeing an ob instead of Mfm/perinatologist.
