Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby not liking solids...

Just wondering if anyone else's 11 month old is not taking to solids very well.  My DD will eat a few veggies not pureed but we can't get any protein in her other than yogurt and scrambled eggs.  Just wondering if anyone else's baby is doing the same.  We didn't start trying real food until a month or so ago so maybe she just needs to get used to it.

Re: Baby not liking solids...

  • My LO is 11.5 months and is hit or miss with solids. The only things she will eat with consistency are pureed sweet potatoes and puffs. I plan on discussing with the pedi at her 12 month appt. I'm sure it just takes some kids longer than others!

  • Thanks ladies.  I feel better and I know that she will get it but I read about all these babies chowing down and I wonder if I should be pushing it a little more.  I'll let her decide when to try more.  My little one also does the take a bite and push it out thing.  Also, I'd love to be able to quit buying/making puree's.

  • So far the only way DS really eats protein is in a puree (I make one with chicken, squash and brown rice with chicken broth). He will have a few bites of yogurt, or gnaw on a stick of cheese, but doesn't really eat much of it.

  • Wanted to chime in here- my 11 month old doesn't really have an interest in solids either. She will nibble on slices of fresh fruit. When presented with anything pureed she will dip her spoon into it and try to feed it to someone else. She has on occasion tried to feed herself a bite but usually just gags and looks like she is going to throw it up. We haven't had much luck with finger food either-she's just more interested in feeding other people the food and seeking me out to nurse!
  • My son was not at all interested in solids when he was 11 months.  Sometimes he'd eat purees, sometimes he didn't want to, really depended on the day.  That said, he's 13 months now and doing MUCH better with solids, he's eating solid chunks of things and purees pretty well now.

Just keep offering it and they'll get it eventually!

  • Our 9 month old cannot handle anything textured at all.  Stage 2 purees are fine, but even something as simple as puffs, mum mums, or Cheerios (broken in half!) will cause him to gag and then throw up by the 4th or 5th bite, every time.
  • My DD literally just started eating purées reliably this week. I also offer her bites of whatever I'm eating and finger food to practice with, but she isn't super-interested. Sometimes it just takes awhile. :-)
