Apparently a lot of us are already in the process of planning our LO's first birthdays. I'm not going to lie I've been thinking about it recently too.
What themes are you thinking about/decided on? Any plans on activities or games? Or just planning on having a "get together" sort of party? Were you planning on inviting just close family? Family and friends?
Flame away that I'm thinking about it already. My life is boring and it's the only thing I really have to look forward to in the semi-near future.
MIL has a great pool, so I'm already thinking pool party. As usual we will be blaring our salsa music. The food will be the big question though. I can't wait for her first cake! Awwwwwww, we are almost kinda halfway there. Wth? Time flies!
For DD1 I didn't do games and made it more adult friendly. (IE, provided alcohol.) Didn't really do a theme, just stuck with a color plan. Since then Pinterest was born and her parties have gotten infinitely more awesome.
I don't really know about DD2 yet. Definitely hoping to be outside and will probably do games, but more for the kids who are all around DD1's age. Right now I'm thinking about a watermelon theme.
DD1 has requested a Sesame St theme this year and I'm in the beginning of planning that.. with a secret Pinterest board.
I have been thinking about her first birthday party since before she was born. ">
I'm thinking about doing Pink Poodle in Paris.
I so love this!!!
Like I said in UO were doing sea life in probably a teal/ aqua color scheme but kept elegant. Probably more aimed toward the adults because she only has a couple babies we could invite. I have so much more to plan!!!
I'm thinking of doing something smallish, probably outside at a covered pavilion cooking out at a park. A few of my friends have toddlers so a park will be good for them. I was thinking of just doing a color theme, maybe purple, lime green and polka dots. K is definitely more of a purple than a pink girl.
TTC since July 2011
HSG normal in May 2012 followed by three unmonitored clomid cycles unsuccessful
Unexplained female infertility (My husband apparently has super sperm)
IUI # 1 Nov 24
BFP Dec 8! EDD Aug 17th, due to Preeclampsia and HELLP, Kylie Penelope was born July 30th!
I don't really like anything too theme-y, especially for girls. I feel like it's all hot pink, princess, shopping, fashion blah blah blah...not my style.
I think we'll do more of a shabby chic thing but I haven't decided on colors yet. Probably pale purple, aqua, ivory.
@starscream if we were closer, I would totally crash that party. It sounds like a blast.
I'm thinking of doing something story/nursery rhyme themed for her 1st birthday. A friend of mine is a party planner and did the most adorable modern little pigs party for a first birthday. Or possibly a "you are my sunshine" them party. I thought of that as her nursery theme and decided it was a little too gender neutral for my tastes for a nursery. We'll invite local family, daycare kids, and a few of our friends that have kids.
Her baptism is coming up in March and we're throwing a small party/lunch afterwards. I'm leaning towards little chickadee for a theme for that.
Since we're not super into the pink and frills, I'm planning a backyard BBQ out at my parents. They have a covered deck and 5 acres. Plus my dad has purchased old playground equipment over the years so theres a merri-go-round, slide, swings, diggers, etc for kids. Horse shoes, badmitton, and croquet for the adults. Plus an inch and a half scale train with a mile of track for all to enjoy! The theme will be UNO, and I'll have all the decorations and food in rainbow colors!
We just do a family party with us and then we travel back to our home state to have a lake party with my family and DHs family. My parents live on a private lake so we do a big cookout, play on the beach, water ski, tube. It's fun. So glad both my boys are august babies! Now we are dubbing the 2nd weekend in august "M children birthday spectacular!!!" At gma and gpas house!
DS1 turns 3 in August. He will probably have his first real party with friends then. I'm excited! Not sure what he will be into then.
We will do both girls bday parties together. Dd1 will be three on 7/11 so I'll have the theme be something that she will like. We just bought a house so it will be a BBQ/ pool party.
As of now I think I want to do an Alice in Wonderland tea party. But this is 8 months away, that theme will change about 1000 times between now and then.

We will have a pool party at ILS house. I'm going with the under the sea/ mermaid theme. We will do this as a big party then her 5th. Everything in between will be small with just immediate family and dinner, cake and Ice cream.
haven't thought much about it yet but now I will be looking up ideas on pinterest! I am just super excited his birthday is during the summer! So many fun options!

This was the theme of my bridal shower, and was going to be the theme for our nursery (we changed to a more gender neutral theme instead). I heart Alice in Wonderland so hard. I actually have a very large collection of memorabilia that MH makes me keep packed away.

One of my sister's did this for my niece's 1st birthday last month. They had a "one"derland tea party theme. It was very cute!

This was the theme of my family bridal shower too! Well, mad hatter tea party! crazy!
My hubby and I have been talking about this for a week now, were debating for a princess theme party or super hero party, and have every one dress up. As for food were not sure yet.
I've decided no first birthday party cos I know I'll go overboard and get stressed from it all.
BUT I have decided on the cake - I'm going to make the same cake my mother always made us - a 2 tier chocolate fudge cake with mock cream icing - then stencil the birthday number in chocolate sprinkles (al a Pinterest). So starting a tradition but something easily done. And it's super tasty!
I'm trying to keep in mind that whatever I do for LO's birthday will set a precedent for all other birthdays to come, and for any future children. I don't want to go overboard on the firstborn child's birthday party, and then be tempted to half-ass it when it comes to the next kid's birthday.

I feel the same way.. however MIL will make sure it's over the top. Only child. Had an only child. First grandbaby. Welcome to my life. X_X

I'm glad it went well, I hope you feel better soon. Wisedom teeth suck.
I also love this set up for the high chair for pictures, especially if you are doing first cake picture.

The one thing that is super important to me is the cake. I make all birthday cakes. Everything else is whatever.
