I got 2 teachers fired at daycare...(tl;dr vent-ish)

well, I guess they got themselves fired, but I feel like shit about it.

Story is: I was pulling into the daycare and I saw a teacher heading back into the building and I said "hey, you are going the wrong way" and she said "there is a kid on the playground!"...and sure enough there was a little girl out on the playground by herself. I held the doors open for the teacher so she could quickly go inside and let the director know. The area director was also there at the time and they all looked like super freaked out. I picked up my kids and left...

cut to later that evening when I got a phone call from the area director apologizing for what happened and explaining that they have policies in place to prevent things like that and the policies weren't followed and she didn't want me to think this is something that happens all the time and that they have a zero tolerance policy and 2 teachers were termed as a result.

Objectively, I agree with the decision and I think it was handled well - if it were one of my kids I would have lost my shit. But on the other hand I feel so bad because this was 2 peoples jobs! I just have to put this out in the universe because I am beating myself up over the fact that two people lost their jobs. I know if I wasn't there they would have anyways, but damn...

There was a teacher who was leaving for the day and noticed that there was a kid on a playground and went back inside to tell the director that there was a kid left out on the playground. She didn't get fired, she is the infant teacher, this kid was on the 3-4 year old playground. She looked fine, just playing on the jungle gym.

If you had seen the kid and told, I could understand feeling a little guilty...though you would have just been an innocent bystander. I get what you're feeling though.

The director handled it perfectly. As a parent I would be very angry if they had just swept in under the rug. Parent's are entrusting the care of their children to these people for 40+ hours a week. I definitely would not want people who didn't even notice a child was missing to be taking care of my kid all day.
