Not eating at all..

My 10 month old son was diagnosed with RSV and a double ear infection almost 2 weeks ago. He is acting better but he literally refuses to drink more than 2 oz at a time I've taken him to the doc 3 times now afraid that he's dehydrated but doc says he doesn't appear to be. Why is he not eating? This is very frustrating and I feel like he should be well enough to have an appetitie. Has anyone else gone through this? What was the outcome? How did u get your little one to eat again.? I'm starting to get really worried

    I'm so sorry, poor guy. Is his pee still clear? When he cries are there tears? If so I wouldn't really worry too much. How many ozs is he eating a day? When my girl is sick she loses her appetite big time. I can't tell how much she eats but if the diaper and tears are there I try to stay calm. What about calling to talk to a nurse?

    My son had RSV over Christmas and it was almost the same thing. He was not eating when sick and then even a week later he was still not taking bottles very well if at all.

    I offered solids (he actually ate solids very well during this time) and water form a zippy and a regular cup. As long as he had wet diapers and was drinking water I was not overly concerned.

    His appetite will come back.

    It could be the rsv or fluid in her ears. I agree with pushing solids. My son went through something similar with rsv, and I had luck with Greek yogurt, avacado and tomato soup. If its ear fluid, try smaller bottles more frequently. We're doing that with our daughter now, and it seems to be helping.

    It's likely that the sucking is hurting his ears (trust me, we're in that same boat right now).  Mix formula with his solids for added nutrition and syringe feed him formula or water to keep him hydrated.

    My LO (10 months)  also has an ear infection and isn't interested in food all that much.  He has completely stopped taking his afternoon botttle at day care.  Does he like his sippy cup?  Sometimes, my LO won't take a bottle or breast, but really wants his sippy cup so I have put milk or formula in there.  Also, we found out from our pediatrician, when kids get sick, sometimes they associate a type of food or texture with their illness.  After a particularly nasty stomch bug, LO stopped eating all pureed foods but would still eat fruit cups and pasta.  I would reccomend offering him different textures of food to see if he has a preference.  If all he wants is Cheerios, go with it until his appetite comes back - it will over time.

    Also, pedialyte makes pretty tasty ice-pops if you are worried about dehydration.  They help soothe sore throats from post-nasal drip at the same time.
