My DD has RSV. It's not the flu, but she's definitely sick...fever, bad cough, lots of mucus (she gags on and vomits mucus, poor thing) and is not eating as much. Now she's developed a really red and sore bottom, which the doctor attributed to the virus she has, so she cries and cringes in pain when I change her. This is her 4th day home with a fever and DH plans to stay home with her tomorrow, but I don't know if I should leave her with him because she is refusing any bottle and will only nurse. I'm already concerned about her getting enough fluids and staying hydrated. I don't want her to go a whole day refusing to eat and thus getting even less fluids because I'm not there to nurse her.
This is my internal struggle though, and where I need a push to do the right thing: I feel like I need to go to work tomorrow. I'm a teacher and because of vacation and two days off for the bitter cold, my students have been back to school for two days, but I haven't been back yet. If I'm gone tomorrow, I'll have been gone from school for over three weeks by the time I go back next week. I've never been great at taking sick days because for some reason it makes me feel guilty, but I know I need to stop putting my job ahead of other things, especially now that I'm a mom. So, is it terrible if I call in for a third straight day?
Re: DD has RSV and I need a push in the right direction
Could you go to work for a half day? Like your DH stays home in the morning and you come home after lunch?
