Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6 month old schedule

Hoping some people will share their 6 month olds feeding schedule.  We are trying to get enough food/milk in during the day, but I often feel I am feeding when he is not hungry.  LO is still feeding in the middle of the night  and just trying to get on a better schedule.   How many bottles and oz are you feeding your 6 month old during the day?  Thanks!

  • My little guy gets 5 7oz bottles throughout the day. For now he mostly only gets 1tablespoon of purees once, sometimes twice a day, because I'm a ftm and this whole solid thing is driving me crazy. He'll get a snack bottle too sometimes which can be anywhere from 2-5oz in the afternoon. He sleeps through the night for the most part. Occasionally he'll wake up at night, but never to eat.

  • 7-8am wake up/bottle
    9am - hopeful nap
    10-11am - bottle
Noonish - we attempt solids (FTM as well, we just introduced them 2 weeks ago)
    1pm-bottle
    2pm - hopeful nap!
    4pm -bottle
    6pm - bottle
8pm - bottle, story, down for the night
1-3am - LO wakes for another bottle, sometimes he sleeps through the night, but not normally.

Usually when we give a bottle we offer 4 oz and if he indicates he's still hungry we give him a little more, he eats about 5-6 oz per bottle, sometimes less, sometimes more which usually comes out to 32-40 oz a day - usually around 35.  I know the recommendation is for babies to have 24-32 oz but he's only in the 40% for his weight and the pediatrician doesn't have an issue with it.  I say "hopeful naps" because LO isn't the best napper and almost always fights naps.

  • Up around 7:00
    Nurse
Nap around 10- nurse to sleep
Up around 11 or 12 sometimes nurse
Nap around 3/ nurse to sleep sometimes
Up around 4 or 5 nurse
Bedtime around 7, nurse to sleep
Most of the time he sleeps through into 3 or 4.
We also do purée either for dinner or lunch among with nursing. Usually a couple of tablespoons

@trudibell Sounds like he's having lot of milk and although I don't think that's terrible (mine eats a ton too) have you considered adding more solids?  That should help the formula amounts decrease a little.  Just a thought.

We just started solids last week, I'm not really concerned so long as he's at a healthy weight for his size.  If anything he's long and lanky.
  • DD nurses in the morning- then is at DC all day but she takes 3 (6 1/2 oz) bottles during the 9 hours she is there and then one in the evening.  She eats cereal 3x a day and a puree with dinner as of now.  She STTN- so nothing then.

  • I work 7:30pm to 4:30am so we have a really wonky sort of schedule but this is kind of how it goes.

5:00 am - wake up and BF
6:00 - goes back down for anywhere between an hour or two
8:00 - back up to BF and about half a banana with some yogurt and oatmeal
10:00 - another nap for anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on her mood
12:00 - the rest of her banana mixed with blueberries and yogurt and oatmeal +BF
    4:00p - nap
5:00 - daddy gets home and we have dinner as a family. She usually has whatever we're having or else some mashed potatoes and some kind of veg.
6:30 - BF until I leave for work
7:00 - I leave for work and her and daddy hang out, then she gets fussy and he puts her in crib any time between now and 8:00 and she sleeps pretty much through the night unless she's wet.
