Pulling out the Belly Bands

Hello all, 10 weeks on Saturday and today is the first day I had to pull out my belly band. I don't know if it's just the day or what, but I'm feeling very bloated and chose comfort over trying to keep my pants buttoned all day. Anyone else in the same boat, and when did you start using yours? First timer here, so curious when everyone else had to bust theirs out.

I ordered one a couple weeks ago and MIL bought me one as well, so I decided to try it out today and I am loving it! I usually have no problem buttoning my pants in the morning, but by the afternoon, I end up feeling more bloated and uncomfortable.

  • I agree the mornings are aren't as bad, by the time I go to bed the bloating is over the top!

  • I bought one yesterday, just so I have it ready when I need it. Hubs called it a bloat belt :-)
  • I wore one for two weeks, but have graduated to my maternity jeans. The belly band rolls, even with folding it over my jeans. I was tired of fighting with it. I also went into maternity tops since they are longer. Late in the day the blot makes my sweaters too tight.

  • Mine arrived over the weekend but I haven't used it yet.  although sometimes I just sit with my pants unbuttoned. I've been wearing long tops so you can't tell if I'm sitting down and just button them up when I walk around. I can't wait to use one, though.

has anyone found a good place to buy pregnancy pants / slacks that are okay to work in an office? i work in a law firm so they're pretty formal. i'll also be buying many dresses.
  • @desabel0321 I'm an attorney and I just bought four pairs of pants at New York and Company.  I think they are called their "slide on" pants or something like that. They don't have a zipper or buttons, just an elastic waist band, but they are still perfectly acceptable for professional wear. No one knows they aren't my usual dress pants.

  • This post depresses me...I'm only 7 weeks and I already feel like my pants are snug!!! STM so maybe that's why? Either way I'll take the pudge for a healthy LO!!
  • @kestess, I am going to look into them!! I have one pair of regular pants from there I love but I'm not sure if it's going to make it much further. :)

I totally broke out the Bella band last weekend with jeans, but now have two snow days which are allowing me to put off regular clothes even more. The put them on, then pants, then fold it over technique has been awesome!

  • I haven't had to worry about that yet, but I can see it coming.  I was super bloated yesterday at home and I decided skinny jeans were a good idea (ha!) but the hair tie trick worked.  Most of the time I can fit into the my jeans, but my bloat gives me horrible muffin top and I feel gross.  I'm wearing my fat work pants today and I'm still spilling over them when I don't suck in.

  • I pulled mine out at 5 weeks. Why be uncomfortable?
BTW, someone on here suggested putting it on before your jeans, then folding the top half over your jeans. GENIUS. I never have to adjust anymore!

  • 10 weeks and I'm living in leggings because the hair tie trick doesn't work anymore... I was stretching out my hair ties! I haven't tried putting on jeans in about a week, but I want to get a Bella band so I can have my wardrobe back!

  • I just got mine today. Can't wait to try it out!
  • I think I was 14 or 15 weeks before I had to use them but I don't think I will make it that long this time.
  • I'm on my last pair of fat pants @ 9 weeks tomorrow. Going to have to purchase one of those bands or try the hair tie trick to make it through the week. Too cold for a dress and leggings.

  • I am new to this...is the belly band the band that goes around regular pants?

  • Yes, the belly band goes over your regular pants to hold them up when you can't get them buttoned.  It helps keep you in your normal clothes longer before taking the plunge to maternity wear.

I haven't tried it with jeans yet, I'm curious to see how they work with tighter jeans, but so far using with my work pants has been great and very comfortable!

  • I'm only 8 weeks and I've been trying to fit into my pants since I was 6 weeks. I finally broke down and bough leggings and long shirts.
  • All my black work pants are getting too tight and I will be 7 weeks tomorrow. That was also the first thing that quit fitting me with my son. I am going to get a belly band soon. Luckily I have a few pants that stretch instead of button that are much more comfortable for me.

  • I'm almost 7 weeks and already the bloat is horrendous. I haven't gained anything (yet) but I can barely fit into things. Is this normal? :-/

  • Totally busted them out last night. Had to go out for a few hours and couldn't comfortably do my pants up to save my life. And I was wearing my fat pants!

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Not so much here. I rarely put on pants that need buttoning.
  • I'm using a hair tye and looping it through the hole and on the button on my jeans to give me some extra room for now

This exactly. When I get home from work, it is immediate pajama pants.

  • FTM here and I've been wearing a band with my jeans for a couple of weeks now.  I just started needing to wear it with my work pants.  All of them still button,  but are super uncomfortable by the end of the day. I've been the same size since HS so I don't really have 'fat pants.'

  • Bought 2 new pairs of skinny jeans in 2 sizes up. I think they'll hold me over until I need the real maternity pants. I heart Nordstrom Rack. They're perfect bc my waist is disproportionately smaller than my thunder thighs anyways. Wearing a belt now, and the waist has 3 inches plus to give... Plus they are way stretchy. SO much more comfortable!

I'm a nurse practitioner so we are suppose to dress up most of the time. I found some maternity work pants on sale at JCP.com. Just got them in the mail yesterday and for $20 and free shipping... I love them!

  • What brand belly bands do you all have?  Is the bella band the best or are there other good ones?  By the end of the day my pants are unbearable, time for me to order one.

  • During weeks 6 and 7 I was oddly extremely bloated every day and had to unbutton my jeans all the time. Now at 8 weeks, I'm a little more comfortable and for the most part have been able to tolerate jeans as is,.. but I already bought a belly band and am sure it won't be long before I'll need it! Especially for work pants. Luckily I work from home most of the time and don't have to dress up every day so I have not tried on any work clothes... that will change over the next few weeks though as I have meetings for work and am SUPER worried that my clothes won't fit.
Hope that band works and looks professional, I guess just no tucking in! :/

I just have a Target one - from what I know it is just like the Bella brand. I haven't started using it yet this pregnancy...I didn't love it last time around but I'm going to try some different techniques this time.

  • Rocking maternity pants today. I will be 11 wks tomorrow.

Ann Taylor has a maternity line on their web site. Also Pea in The Pod has good work stuff.
  • I wore my band for the first time today and sadly I did not enjoy. It kept rollong down and turning into more of a belt than a band. I have jeans I can wear on the weekend, but I think im going to need to get some other pant options for work the next few weeks.
  • I had a bunch of pants in the next size up and grew out of them this week (8 weeks). I just went straight to maternity pants today rather than keeping my pants up other ways like I have been the last few days. So much more comfortable! But I can't believe I'm already this big (STM)!

  • On top of gaining about 5 lbs over the holidays, I am only fitting in one pair of jeans.  I too am basically living in leggings.  I guess I am going to have to start wearing my band too.  I tried it on, but it would just roll down and was really uncomfortable, but I am going to try folding it over my pants.  I'm hoping that will work.  I was hoping to not have to buy maternity clothing until mid March so I can buy items that will last me through the Spring and Summer months.
  • I know the package says that early on you should fold it over once to keep it from rolling. I've worn mine a couple times and haven't had it roll down on me.

  • I'll be 11 weeks on Sunday and from about 5 weeks I've been super bloated (plus 3-4 lbs since then) so have been wearing my fat pants. I can still suck it in, but I did notice this morning a firmness to my pelvic area and sucking in didn't help :) I'm so uncomfortable today and my pants are pressing on my bladder which is SUPER FUN... I think I'm gonna be shopping for leggings this weekend and I may have to try out the bella band :)
