Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleepytime, MOMMY ONLY!

My 4 month old daughter will only go to sleep with me or in the car with her binky?
My husband and other family members get jealous that she is doing this. Any advise on how to stop it?
Clue: I am a stay at home mom with a 9 year old.

  • They get "jealous"? Because what, they want to hold her while she sleeps? Tell them to STFU. If its a problem for YOU that you always have to do bedtime, you can try letting YH do it every once in a while and just leave for an hour so you're not in the way. But other family members can go jump in a lake. I wouldn't be surprised if they're keeping her awake even! We were at my ILs one day and DD was up for hours at a time, she wanted to nap but she was fighting it. We put her in the swing and she just wouldn't fall asleep. I had to tell my MIL to STOP STARING AT HER! Eye contact is t THE most exciting thing for babies! As soon as my MIL read the paper for a minute DD passed out. Sometimes it's the excitement that comes along with family that keeps them up!
    This.
I laughed when you said they get jealous. How ridiculous. My daughter's great grandmother and great aunt are the same way, though.

  • My advice would be to not fight it. My LO was doing the same thing (sleeping on me). Every night and nap time I just consistently tried putting her in her crib first (awake but drowsy, then when she was already asleep, etc). I didn't/don't always let her stay there bc it's obvious she won't go back to sleep, but we make progress. Tonight (so far) it's worked. A little white noise while she's falling into her deep sleep, and she'll give me a good 4-5 hours in the crib. After that, if she wants to come to my bed, she can.

As for other people wanting your LO to sleep on them...why? Lol. It's not always the most comfortable thing in the world, and ...just why? I don't understand that one. But, I ditto PP's that they're probably the ones keeping her awake.
I don't know why it is that when I say "she's tired and needs a nap" someone has got to get all up in her face, look her right in the eye, and say something stupid. Like, "oh, are you sweepy??" No shit, sherlock. Now, get out of her face so she can sleep!
