Giving away baby items

I just passed on a big box of baby clothes to a co-worker.  I know I'm one and done, but it was so hard.  I've been putting it off for a while because I just couldn't part with them.  And its mostly just sleep and plays (because the seasons would be different).  I kept some of the cute things that I loved.

If I kept them all, I wouldn't do anything with them anyway.  But it was just so hard to part with them.

Anyone else want to join my pity party?

Re: Giving away baby items

  • I have a hard enough time packing them away. I can't imagine giving them away. I am holding onto them in case #2 (which we are working on) is a girl. If we have a boy, it will be time to start new.

  • I'm in the same boat as pp.  I get all emotional just putting them away.  I can't imagine totally giving them away.

  • I gave a bunch of things away to 2 of my friends. They.promised to hold on to what they have and we can trade back if my #2 is a girl...not that I am planning baby 2 anytime soon...but just in case :)

  • Am I the only one who's not attached to the clothes? :) I've been giving my coworker the clothes that Z outgrows since her son is only 3 months younger than Z. I've only kept his cute monster shoes cause hubby wanted to keep them and the little brother onesie that SD bought him cause coworkers kid is the first for her. She'll actually get clothes from neighbors or garage sales that fit Z and give them to me and I just pass them back :). It's great cause I haven't had to buy much for him at all :)

  • I refuse to give anything away because I am still holding out hope for a 2nd and 3rd child. Once we are for sure done all of the stuff we aren't using is going to consignment. I plan on keeping a few of the swaddlers and blankets to make an heirloom quilt but that is it.

  • I'm not giving anything away unless it was a gift and I didn't use it. I've let a friend borrow a couple of outfits for specific occasions with the understanding that I want it back. I've spent way too much money on baby clothes to give them away just to have another girl and start over. I don't have a problem packing them away other than the fact that I'm too lazy.

  • FFIL's co-worker made DS an awesome quilt of a bunch of his special (to me) newborn outfits. We also had people decorate onesies at the baby shower, so those are on there also.

Over the past year I've given away two big containers of baby clothes/random gear to two moms in need. We were given waaay too many clothes for DS, so when/if we have another LO, we'll still have clothes for him or her.
