Painful BH Contractions

Good grief, these BH contractions are no joke. I've been reading and reading that they're supposed to be painless, just uncomfortable, but these bad boys hurt and last awhile. I've also been having period-like cramping since last night, but it isn't consistent. How do you ladies deal with the contractions? I've tried doing the opposite of whatever I'm doing, drinking lots of water, and taking a warm bath but for the past two days, they've been really bad and won't let up.

Re: Painful BH Contractions

  • How far apart are they? Timeable? If you are conerned or if they are time able I would call your OB.
    BFP #1 (7/13/12) MC (8/14) 9 weeks. D & C 8/17.
BFP #2 (5/18/13) due 1/26/14. Grow baby grow!
    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • They've been very inconsistent so I can't time them, but man, do they hurt. Hopefully they stay inconsistent, but if they don't let up by tomorrow, I'll definitely be contacting my OB. I had a NST and BPP yesterday and everything was good, so I'm not worried about LO. I also saw a tiny spot of blood last night and a small amount of brownish discharge (Sorry, TMI) but I think it may just be the mucus plug. I'm a FTM so I really have no idea what to look for, just resting and drinking plenty of water. :-/

  • Perhaps you're experiencing prodromal labor rather than just Braxton Hicks. The spotting could possibly be a sign that you're dilating, so I would call your OB.

  • I had a friend who had contractions for nearly a week before she actually went into labor. :( she was exhausted by then. My only advice would be what PP have said, to check that it isn't something more and beyond that to just try to relax as much as possible.

  • Mine are more uncomfortable than painful. I have had painful ones, though. It's not so much the contractions that hurt, it's the pressure it causes, plus the baby moves during them, and I'll feel it in my pelvis. Mine have no pattern, so it's not a worry, but it's not fun for sure.If you are really concerned, it doesn't hurt to be checked out. Nobody will think it's stupid to be concerned about it. I was in the hospital a few weeks ago for contractions. My cervix was closed, but they wanted my contractions to slow down. I was sent home the same night, but a piece of mind was worth the hospital visit.

  • I have had painful ones that are timeable. But mostly they are just really uncomfortable. The period like cramps were more painful than the contractions. If yours are painful they may be early labor for you!

  • I have really intense BH contractions throughout the day. Some of them I could swear are the real thing! But they are not timeable so I just drink water and walk.
  • When I was 19 weeks I had very painful bh contractions. My dr wanted me to go in to check on the baby. Everything was fine with the baby. The dr said that it can happen when dehydrated or overtired. They also checked to see if there was any bladder infection or kidney stones because those can apparently contribute to irritability in the uterus as well. They said the best thing to do is lay down, get comfy and drink lots of water
