Pregnant after 35

2nd time moms,etc.

Just wondering if you were showing really quickly with your second or third, etc.? I am only 6 weeks and am feeling like I am slowly showing and we don't plan on telling people for a bit. I feel like we may not have a choice. lol I always hear after your first things stretch out a lot quicker. I guess I am living that sentiment.

Re: 2nd time moms,etc.

  • At 6 weeks what you are experiencing is bloat. A lot of second time moms say they do show sooner, but I have found I've been right around the same size as with #1.

My belly hadn't really expanded until about 24 weeks. I'm just 2 days shy of 30 weeks now.
  • I believe 2nd+ time moms just know maternity clothes/loose waisted pants, etc. are so much more comfortable after a + shows up that they don't wait as long to make the switch with clothing.  I kidded that i needed maternity clothes as soon as I got a positive the 3rd time around.  Truly though I don't think I expanded any more quickly but I knew there was no reason to hide/be uncomfortable.  The bloating, and then the weight gain didn't really happen any sooner

There is definately some truth to this. The only thing is my buttons on my pants are tight and I am wearing them now but dont want to stretch my pants out in the stomach area either. I am def. holding off on mat. pants for now, may go to the elastic trick or belly band next.

I agree on the bloat thing. It just all seems to be in that front tummy spot and looks a little obvious. Even my husband has really noticed. Maybe it will stay this way for a bit and not expand to later. I know it is what it is, was just curious how others were with this. Thanks.

  • I waited until about 24 weeks to announce my 1st and could have gone a bit longer b/c I wasn't showing at all.  My body rebounded very quickly after my pregnancy and I was below my starting weight right away.

This time, however, my belly has popped out already.  I'm only 9 weeks and there is definite bumpage going on.  It's bloat, for sure, but it's bump as well. I have my regular jeans that were my "fat pants" that I've moved into and haven't made the jump to maternity clothing yet (cuz…ugh…i just don't want to) but it will for sure be much faster this time around.

Oh.  Also, right around 6 weeks I was wearing DS in a front carrier and I felt definite bump.  That wasn't bloat, there is a distinct difference.  So even at 6 weeks, there was something there.  Crazy.

  • I bumped out much earlier this time! But I don't seem to actually be any bigger than last time now that I'm 21 weeks along. Frankly, people who don't know still don't realize I'm pregnant, though it's been more than a month (closer to 2) since I couldn't comfortably wear my normal pants. Or even my fat pants now! But I'm still in normal (non-mat) dresses and many non-mat shirts and sweaters.
  • I just had a baby 4.5 months ago, and few people have seen me yet.  I'm hoping if I start showing early they will just think it's baby weight from numero UNO!

  • I'm with you. The bloating shows so much more than it did the first time. But, in the last three and a half years I've had a pregnancy, c-section and two laparoscopic abdominal surgeries. Those muscles just aren't the same as they were the first time around!
  • This is my second time around and I started showing much later than the first time. I looked and felt bloated for quite a while, but am finally starting to show a real bump. I was 20w on Tuesday.
